rllhis invention relates to improvements in safety devices for securing windows and screens against being opened by unauthorized persons or children, and has for its principal object to provide a window and screen securer which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture yet durable and eiiicient in its operation, and a device which may be conveniently carried by travelers for securing hotel room windows or the like against surreptitious entry. Another object of my invention is the provision of a safety device which can readily be set up to hold half-screens in place so as l to allow a ventilation of a room without danger of children removing the screen and falling out of a window.Y
A further object of my invention is the provision of a Vsafety device of this character .m which may be telescoped so as totake up a comparatively small space when not in use. These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fullymapparent as the description thereof proceeds and 2' will then be specifically defined in the appended claims. Y

As shown on the drawings, the window and screen securer constructed according to my invention comprises a metal tube of a preferably square cross-section which, however, may have also anyeother shape, the upper mi open end of which is adapted to receive a plug 11 adapted to be held in said tube or sleeve 10-by means The upperpart Vof the plug has integrally made therewith a head 13 laterally projecti' ing beyond the outer limits ofthe tube, as at 14, and carrying at its upper face near its end a projecting member 15 adapted to engage in asocket 16 secured to the lower face f of a window frame 17 by means of ascrew 18 L or the like.

The material of thetube 10 is slotted neary its lower end, as at 19, and a band 2O is guided about its lower end and has formed at its-inv ner ends oppositely disposed, perforated ears 21, 22. Through theperforations of these ears extends a screw bolt or pin 23, one end of which is formed into a head 24, while its other `end carries the sleeve of a hand wheel 26. Y
Intov the tube 10 telescopes. from below a hollow bar 27 of a cross-section identical with the-cross-section of tube 10, and is guided therein through a slotted fibre collar or washer 28, while the upper end of bar 27 has formed ltherewith L-pieces or irons 29 for limiting its outward movement by engagement with the collar 28. .The lower end of bar 27 vhas attached thereto a base or foot 30 by means of s-crews 31 passing Athrough a flange 32' ofthe base entering the Vlower end of hollow bar 27. The base isY undercut to form a depending. lip or tongue -33 adapted to engage the upper bar34 of a window frame or the lockl thereon. The loweriend of foot 30 is Aequippedwith a-rubber cushion 35.

The outward movement of bar 27 is limited bythe engagement` between the L-irons 29 and the fiber washer or collar 28, while the rubber cushion 35 will give the bar a firm hold `on a sash frame and prevent damaging of the same. It will be understood that I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention only as one example of the many possible ways to practically construct my device, and that I may make such changes therein as come within the scope ofthe appended claims Without departure from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device for keeping the sashes of sliding windows and screens apart and locking the same in their relative adjusted positions comprising two teleseopng, hollow members, one slotted at its lower end, a band guided about this slotted end, oppositely disposed, perl5 forateil ears at the inner en ds of said band, a
screw bolt` e:.-:ten lin Vthro jh the perforations of these ears. a head formed one end of said bolt to limit 1no\'ement in one direction and a sleeve and Land wheel carried by the other end of said bolt for allowing` a firm squeezing,` of the slotted lower end of one member about the upper end of the other member telescopingtherein, a plug received in the upper end of the upper member and means securing the same therein, a head formed with said plug laterally projecting beyondv the outer limits of the upper member at its upper end, a projection on the outer end of said head adapted to engage in a 30 socket on the lower face of a window frame,
a base for the lower end of one of said members undercut to form a depending lip adapted to engage the upper bar of a Window frame, means for securing, said foot on said @J meunier, and a rubber Cushion on the lower end of said foot.
