resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved WVindow-Lock, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description.

his invention relates to window locks and has for an object the provision of an improved construction which is simple and strong and formed so as not to readily get out of order.

Another object in view is to provide a simple construction which may be easily operated interiorly, but will not be readily observed from the exterior of the window.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates an ordinary wall 1 provided with a window frame 2 in which sashes 3 and 4 are positioned, said sashes sliding up and down in the usual manner. Ordinarily heretofore most windows are provided with a lock arranged centrally on the transverse bar 5, but in the present invention it is aimed to provide either one or two looks at the ends of bar 5.

As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the upright 6 of the upper sash 3 is provided with a plate 7 held in place by screws or otherwise, said plate having a socket 8 for receiving the bent end 9 of the locking bar 10. This looking bar is provided with a horizontal section '11 fitting between the uprights 12 and 13 of the retaining plate 14. This retaining plate is connected with the upright bar 15 of the sash 4 by any desired means, as for instance screws. From the horizontal section 11 of the locking bar 10 a flaring locking handle 16 projects, said handle being positioned beneath the hook 17 when the parts are in a locked position. It will, of course, be evident that the handle 16 is resilient, though sufficiently stifl to lock the parts in position when interlocked with hook 17 so that there can be no independent up or down movement of either of the sashes.

What I claim is:

1. A locking device for windows comprising a plate having a socket therein adapted to fit into an upper sash, a plate having a groove therein adapted to fit into the top of the lower sash of a window, a locking bar having a bent section for fitting into said socket and a horizontal section fitting into. said groove, said locking bar being positioned so that the upper part will fit flatwise against the face of the upper sash and the lower part will fit fiatwise against the face of the lower sash, and means arranged in the lower sash for locking said bar against accidental removal.

2. In a window lock the combination with upper and lower sashes of a plate having a socket therein for the upper sash, agrooved member connected with the upper part of the lower sash, said grooved member being arranged in a horizontal plane, a substantially Z-shaped locking bar with the center fitting into said grooved member and one end fitting into said socket member, said locking bar being positioned so that the upper part will fit against the face of the upper sash and the lower part will fit against the face of the lower sash and a hook engaging the 'opposite end to that fitting into said socket member for holding the locking member normally in said socket member and said grooved member.

In a locking device'for windows the combination with upper and lower sashes of a window of a locking bar arranged exteriorly of said sash formed with a central section adapted to fit against the top of the lower sash, and a pair of end sections, one end section extending along the upper sash and the other end section along the lower sash, a socket member overlapping the end of the locking member extending along the upper sash, means connecting the socket member with said'upper s ash and a -hook arranged in the upper sash near the lower part thereof,.--a hook arranged in -:the lower sash near the upper part thereof, and a bodily removable substantially *Z shaped 10 looking membenhaying oneend bent for fit- Obpiesflof thisipatent may v be obtained m five cents each; by addressing the Commiss ioner of latnt s,
