PATENT OFFICE WILLIAIVI L. MYERS, OF NEWARK, AND GEORGE IARRIS ON,` OF BELLEVILLE, NEW i JERSEY, .ASSIGNOR'STO L. A. -MYERS, JR., INC.,
PORATION OF NEW JERSEY .'BUCKLE Application filed September 18, 1930. Serial No. 482,666'.,
Our invention relates to improvements in buckles intended prmarily for use on shoes and it is our object to produce a buckle which can be easily threaded, easily sewed to a strap, which will haveV a short tongue andwhich will present a neat appearance on the shoe. i
In the drawings we have illustrated one form of our inventionbut the details may be varied without departing from our invention. Fig. 1 is a view of our buckleV with Vthe straps thereon; Fig. 2 a view of our buckle with one Strap sewed thereto;
Fig. 3 a sectional View of the structure of Fig. 2 on the line 34-8 thereof; and Fig. 4 an edge View of ourbuckle.
The buckle comprisesv a pair of closed loops 1 and 2, those shown being oval, although any desired form may be used and they may be plain or suitably ornamented, the slots in the outside edges of the'buckle illustrated being simply for ornarnental purposes. These loops are connected 'by bars 3 and 4 inclined with respect to each other so that they meet one side of the loop 1 in a substantial V in the point of which the short tongue 5 is hinged with its free end adapted to bear on the opposite side of the loop 1. The bars 3 and 4 are more widely separated where they meet the sideof the loop 2 so that the side of the loop 2 between the bars 3 and 4 serves as a sewing bar to which one of the shoe straps 8 is attached.
In use the strap 8 on one side of the shoe 'o is sewed to the sewing bar and the free end of the strap 8' on the other sideiof the shoe is passed through the .loop 1 from rear to front, a hole therein engaging the tongue, after which the free end is passed through the loop l2 from front to rea'r; As the loops are closed the threading operation isV easy and the tongue, being short, is easily engaged and disengaged; The tongue, being in the point of the V is always centered in' the buckle frame. 1 We claim 1. In a buckle, an integral, rigid frame comprising a pair of spaced strap fengaging loops, a pair of spaced bars connecting the' adj acent sides of said loops, the side between ends of the connecting bars serving as afsewing bar for a strap.
In testimony whereof we have .hereunto subscribed our names. o
WILLIAM L. MYERS. i GEORGE D'HARRISON.
