Description

a. JONES.
ZINC BOARDS FOR STOVES. No. 189,470. Patented April 10, 1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIE EBN JONES, OF WINTERSET, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ZINC BOARDS FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. HS9,470, dated April 10, 1877 application filed February 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EBN JONES, of Winterset, Madison county, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Zinc Board for Stoves; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, having a portion of the sheetmetal sheathing cut away. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section, showing also the interior construction.
My invention has for its object to provide a novel and useful zinc board on which to set stoves; and it consists in a hoop of wood or other material sufficiently high to raise the stove up from the floor, the periphery of said hoop and across its top being sheathed with sheet metal, preferably zinc, forming a sort of drum, and ventilators are located in the periphery to allow the circulation of air in the chamber formed inside. It also has receptacles for poker and dust pan and'brush.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, A is a hoop of wood or other material, of the diameter necessary to allow the feet of the stove to rest on its inner edge. Around the periphery of the hoop I attach or fasten in any desired way a sheathing of sheet metal, B, and provide ventilatingholes b through both, and cover them with wire-gauze c.
Over the top of the hoop, and connected with the edge of the sheathing B, I place a sheet-metal disk, D, and properly finish up the whole. Upon this metal disk sets the stove, as on the ordinary zinc boards.
Sleeves E, extending into the chamber, are fitted into the periphery of the hoop. into these sleeves slide a drawer, e, for the reception of a poker, tongs, and shovel, and a sliding drawer-shaped dust-pan, i, which also answers for a receptacle for a dustingbrush. This arrangement brings the stove implements within easy reach, yet keeps them entirely out of sight.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A ventilated zinc-board platform for stoves,
provided with one or more drawers as receptacles for stove utensils.
