IMPROVE M ENT IN STOVE-PLATFORMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 .11, 106, dated July 22, 1873; application filed March 1, 1873.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that'we, GILBERT E. BINGHAM and JOHN F. EWING, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stove- Platform; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and t0 the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings'is a representation of a central vertical section of the platform. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the ring. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the joint of the ring-sections.
This invention relates to an improved stand or platform to rest upon the floor under and supporting a stove; and it consists in a metallic ring formed with two flanges, between which is placed a wooden board faced with metal, said ring being made in two or more pieces, with lugs at the joint or joints, secured by rivets or bolts. 1
In the drawing, A represents a metallic ring composed of two semicircular pieces joined together at their extremities. On the inner edge of the ring are formed two flanges, a a, between which is placed a circular wooden board, B, the upper side of which is covered with sheet metal. The flanges a a prevent the board from warping. The outer portion of the ring is perforated at a, and inclines outward and downward, forming an air space or chamber between the board B and the floor, into and through which the light and air can penetrate and circulate, and thus prevent heating of the board and fading of the carpet. On the inner side of the lower part of the ring A, at
"the extremities of the semicircular pieces, lugs c are formed, with perforations to receive rivets or screw-bolts d, by which the joints are fastened and the parts firmly secured together.
The ring may be made in two or more pieces, if desired; and it need not be confined to the circular form, but may be made oval or oblong with ornamental edges.
The board may be covered with zinc or with brass, so that it may be polished, or with sheet-iron, so that it may be varnished or blacked with stove-blacking. 7
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The stove-platform, consisting of .the castmetal ring A, made in two or more pieces, the board B, and the sheet-metal cover 2, substantially as shown and described.
2. The flanges a a on the inner edge of the ring, substantially as shown and described.
3. The board B, covered with sheet metal, and held between the flanges a a substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
GILBERT E. BINGHAM. JOHN F. EWING.
