RGY BURTON, OF SAL-EM, OREGON MARKER Application filed october 18, 1930. Serial No. 89,688.
This invention relates to a marker designed wimarily for use in connection with ice cream l it is to be understood that mark- 1 dance with this invention may be 1 Wed in any connection for which it may id applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereafter set forth, a marker so constructed and arranged for marking an ice cream brick to enable one to cut the brick in slices of exact proportion.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a marker for the purpose referreo to which is simple in its construction and arrangement, s'atro durable, compact, thoroughly eiiicient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith he foregoing and other objects in view, the 'nvention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawiin wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views igure 1 is a top plan View of a marker in accort ce with this invention.
Figure 2 is an edge elevation looking towards one side of the marker.
Figure 3 a section on a line 33 Figure 1.
T he marker includes a thin, flat, elongated rectangular body part 1 corresponding in l th to that of the brick 2, the latter being '1 O idicated by the dotted line showing Figure 2. One end of the body part 1 is formed with a right angularly disposed flange 8, which when the marker is used abuts against one end of the brick or one side of the latter for the purpose of serving as a guide so that straight,
gauge.
The body part 1 at its transverse cent-er is former with a transverse slot 1 which is em ployed to indicate the center of the brick. At that end of the body part 1, opposite the end )lOVlClQCl with the flange 3 it is formed with an opening 5 for the purpose of hanging up the marker when the latter is not used.
One side edge of he body part 1 is formed with a set of equally spaced, integral, slightly inturned tapered projections 6 which constitute marking points. The other side of the body part is formed with a set of equally spaced, integral, slightly inturned tapered projections 7 which constitute marking points. The distance between the points 6' is materially less than the distance between the points 7. The set of marking points 6 is employed for marking the bricks for eight slices and the setof marking points 7 'l' is used for marking the bricks for six slices. The projections are downwardly inclined with respect to the outer face of the body part 1. Each set of projections extends from one end to the other end of the body part 1.
When marking the bricks the marker is tilted upwardly slightly relative to that face of the brick which is to be marked, with the flange or guide abutting one end of the brick, and then the operator draws the marker across such face thereby providing the latter with spaced lines or marks in the form of grooves to enable the operator to cut the g brick in slices of exact proportions, or in other words, to slice the brick in slices of equal thickness. If desired, each of the faces, other than the end faces of the brick can be scored or grooved and with the grooves of one face forming continuations of the grooves of the other faces.
What I claim is In a marker for the purpose set forth, an elongated, flat, thin, one-piece body part provided at one end with a rigiit angularly disposed fiange and intermediate its ends with an opening, said opening disposed centrally of said body part, said body part further having 10 each side edge thereof provided with a laterally extending set of equally spaced, integral tapered projections providing marking points.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
ROY BURTON.
