Description

Dec. 20, 1932 CLAUS 1,891,588
WINDOW SAFETY DEVICE Filed May 20, 1952 T f 5 I v Inventor Patented Dec. 20, 1932 IRAN! M118, PLATTSIOUTH, NEBBASiIA.
WINDOW SAFETY DEVICE Application filed Kay 20,
3 rious widths.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a window safety device of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, efiicient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Fi re 1 is an elevational view showing a sa ety device constructed in accordance with this invention mounted in position in a window.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the device.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing 1n detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an elongated metallic tube 1 which is open at its ends for the reception of threaded rods 2. Nuts 3 are threaded for adjustment on the rods 2 and engageable with the ends of the tube 1 for adjusting said rods longitudinally to adapt the device for use in windows of various widths and for clamping said device in position in a window. Lock nuts 4 are also threaded on the rods 2for engagement with the nuts 3 for securing said nuts 3 in adjusted position.
Threaded on the outer end portions of the rods 2 are nuts- 5 having their outer faces substantially flush with the outer ends of said rods 2. Pins 6 are inserted in openings proim. Serial No. 812,503.
vided therefor in the nuts 5 and engaged with the rods 2 for .securing said nuts thereon.
The nuts 5 are'further secured on the rods 2 by cotter pins 7 which are inserted through registerin openin provided therefor transverse y in sai nuts and rods. The free ends of the legs of the cotter pins 7 are bent, as at 8, for anchoring said cotter pins in position. Rings 9 are loosely connected with the eyes 10 of the cotter pins 7 for connection w1th a safety belt or harness (not shown).
In use, the nuts 5 are clamped against the opposed sides of the window frame 11 between the guide strips 12 by threading the nuts 3 toward the tube 1. After the device has been clamped in position, the lock nuts 4.- are threaded into engagement with the nuts 3 and the device is ready for use. In Figure 1 of the drawing, a windpw sash is designated by the reference numeral 13. The device may be used as a hand hold if the mechanic is not using a safety belt or harness.
It is believed that the many advantages of a window safety device constructed in accordance with" the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A window safety device comprising a tube, threaded rods extending longitudinally into the tube, nuts on the rods engageable with the ends of the tube for adjusting the rods longitudinally, nuts threadedly mounted on the outer end portions of the rods, cotter pins extending transversely through the second named nuts and the rods, and rings loosely connected with the eyes of the cotter pins.
2. A window safety device comprising an elongated tube, threaded rods extending into the end portions of the tube, nuts threadedly mounted on the rods and engageable with the 2 more ends of the tube for adjustin said rods longitudinally, lock nuts thre ed on the rods and operatively engageable with the first named nuts, nuts threadedly mounted on the 5 outer end portions of the rods, cotter pins extending transversely throu h the third named nuts and the rods, an rings loosely connected with the eyes of the cotter pins.
3. A window safety device comprising an elongated tube, threaded rods extending into the end portions of the tube, nuts threaded on the rods and engageable with the ends of the tube for adjustm the rods longitudinally, nuts mounted on t e outer end ortions of the rods, and pins mounted in t e last named nuts and engaged with the rods for securing said last named nuts thereon.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK CLAUS.
