This invention relates to and has for an object the provision of-an improvedtype of dress, particularly adapted to be worn as an outer garment or uniform by women operators, workers, nurses,- and the like.

An object is to provide a simplified pattern whichmay be economically and readily madeinto acne-piece garment,-and may be put on or taken ofl of a wearer with facility. v i

An object also is to provide a uniform or a dress arranged in the form of a one-piece V garment and provided with outer and inner front portions and a single backportion, with sleeve and neck openings, and means for attaching the front and back portions together for preventing the exposure ofthe under-clothing or limbs ofthe wearer. :It will be obvious that when the snap fastenings 15, 19 and 23 and the button 22 are detached from their respective portions of the garment the garment may be completely opened from the neck to the bottom of the skirtso that it may be readily put on over the outer or under clothing of a person, and as readily attached together at said fastenings.

The fastenings are so arranged that the por- "tion 6 of the inner front member 1 will be completely covered by the supplementary portion 17 of member 3, and there will be no openings at the side or front of the skirt which under any conditions would render the under-clothing or limbs of a person visible.

The belt-like extension 20 which extends entirely around the back 2 when buttoned at 22 serves to hold the back inwardly against the body and provides a more'gracefully fitting garment and less smock-like than would be possible with the usual garment worn by workers, and at the same time obviates the necessity of wearing a belt with the garment,

which is sometimes done. From the foregoing description it will be understood that the back portion 2 may be'cut in one piece extending from the shoulder seams downwardly to the bottom of the skirt, and the front waist portion 5 and front skirt portion 6 may similarly be cut in one piece or in two pieces, as desired, and joined at the waist-line if out in two pieces; In any event, the portions 5 and 6 are permanently attached at the left side of the garment to the back portion 2 at the seam 4, which seam extends downwardly from the sleeve opening to the bottom of the skirt. The front portion 5 is also permanently attached to the back portion at the shoulder seam 7. The right hand shoulder of portion 5 is detached at the top of the shoulder from the back 2, and the neckband 14 is open at a corresponding point. Thus the portion 5 may be detachably secured at the shoulder line to the back portion 2 by means of the snap fastener 19. The upper front portion 16 and the corresponding skirt portion 17 of the supplementary front 3 are permanently attached at the right hand side of the garment to the back portion 2, and the portion 16 is detachably secured at the shoul der and near the neckband l t to the underlying portion 5. Also, by means of the snap fastening 23 the supplementary portion 3 may be detachably secured at the right hand side of the garment to the corresponding margin of the inner front 1, while the belt 20 is extended around and outwardly over the back 2 and is detachably secured at the right hand side of the garment by means of a button or other fastening 22.

Thus it will be observed that when the garment is positioned on a person for use the supplementary front portion 16 completely overlaps the shoulder and side of the underlying front portion 5 while the margin 18 is cut on a bias so as to only partially overlap the front portion 5 above thewaist-line. The portion 16 is cut,however, sothat the covering area of the supplementary front portion is gradually increased downwardly from the right "hand shoulder to the waist-line, while the supplementary skirt portion completely over-' laps the underlying skirt portion of the main front 1. K e The advantages of my garment will be apparent to those skilled in the art of dress and uniform making, and while I have shown but one embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I conceive it to be possible to modify the form of garment shown within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit thereof.

What I claim is:

1'. A'dress comprising main, back and front portions permanently secured together at one side of the garment and at a corresponding shoulder and open at the other side of the garment from the neck to the bottom of the skirt, and a supplementary front permanently secured to the back and detachably secured to the shoulder on the open side of the garment, means for attaching the front and back together at said opening at a plurality of points, said main, back and front, and said supplementary front each including a waist portion and a skirt portion, the waist portion of the supplementary front formed to completely cover the lateral portion of the waist of said main front adjacent said open-. ing, and the skirt portion of said supplementary front formed to cover all of the skirt portion of the underlying main front, and a narrow extension formed as a continuation of said supplementary front and extending entirely around and attached to said back portion adjacent the juncture of said back and supplementary front. 7 v

A garment comprising a back, an inner front joined to the back at one side and also joined to a'shoulder on such side, said inner front being detached from the back at the opposite side of the garment to provide an opening from the neck to the bottom of the skirt, said front comprising'a waist portion and a skirt portion, said waist portionbeing de tachably connected on the open side of the garment and at the corresponding shoulder with said back portion, and an outer front permanently attached to the back at the open side of the garment and including a waist portion detachably secured to the inner front portion at the shoulder and biased downwardly in the direction of the closed side of the garment so as to completely cover the inner front portion adjacent said opening and to partially cover said inner front portion at the front and on the closed side of the garment, said outer front having an extension continuing therefrom at the waistline and extended around said back, and means for detachably securing the'free end of said extension to the garment.
