CONTAINER AND CASE COMBINED FOR USE AS A LIP STICK Filed Aug. 25, 1931 v 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 1, 1932 UNITED ALFREDO J. VERCELLI, 0F BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA oomArnnn AND CASE ooranrnnn non use AS A LIP s'rrcir Application filed August 25, 1931, Serial No. 559,156, and in Argentina July 23,1931.
The present invention refers to a combined container and corresponding case for same to be used for toilet purposes and which constitutes an apparatus of small dimensions and easily handled and which advantageously substitutes the lipstick that is unwieldly and stains everything brought in contact with it.
This invention may be practically considered as a lipstick which instead of being composed of the ordinary substance used for this purpose, it contains liquid rouge and is easily handled with one hand leaving the other to hold the purse or satchel.
Reference is made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the combined apparatus;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of same with the lid open;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of same;
Fig. 4C is a. front view of the container;
Figs. 5 and 6 show the way to handle the apparatus.
The apparatus consists of two principal parts: The container and the case, both of which are combined in such a manner as to form only one device. I
The container which should be preferably made of glass, is cylindrical with certain variations in diameter in order to adapt it to the desired use. The lower part (a) is of greater diameter than the upper portion (7)).
The portion (6) is. provided at a. certain height with a circular groove (6) and with the portion (0) of'less diameter and which is bevelled on both sides and provided with the conduit (r) that communicates with the interior of the container.
The inner part of the cylinder which forms the container has two diameters, part (6) seen in Fig. 3 is of greaterdiameter than the portion (f) which is a tube that communicates with the conduit (r).
Over the bevelled sides of the portion (d) 7 there is placed a cover of chamois leather ((1') or other similar materiahwhich is held in position by the ring (g). i
As illustrated in Fig. 3 the inner portion (6) of the container ((1) is open at the base;
this opening being adaptable to be closed by the stopper (t),Figs. 3'and 4.
The casein which the container is located comprises the cylinder I (h), preferably of metal or any other suitable-materiahprovided with a cover or cap (2') which fixed by means of the hinge (j) is provided with the circular ridge (is) that fits in the groove (10) in the cylinder (it) and on being closed does so with a snap. Just below this cap (2') the nu cylinder is provided with an inner ridge (m) that serves a purpose which I will describe below.
Thebase (Z) of the case is provided with a bevelled disk with grooved edges,perforated in the center ifdesired which on being closed fits in the groove provided in the inner sides of the lower portion of the cylinder.
In operation, the container after being filled with liquid rouge through the lower '70 opening it is closed by'the stopper (2?) and placed in the case (it) which is then in its turn closed by means of the lower disk (Z). The cover or cap is then also closed thus forming a device of very small dimensions which may be carried in any purse or pocket. l Vhen it is desired to use therouge, the cap (2'), which is suitably provided with a fancy .mark (a) in order tolocate the side which should be lifted, isopened, the apparatus is then inverted andthe inner container falls out a sufficient distance and is then stopped by the ridge (m) coming in contact with the wider diameter (a). The cap (2') is then pressedagainst the side of the container to 55 prevent this from falling back into the case when the latter is turned back to its original position as in Fig. 6. As the cap is provided with a ridge (is) that combines with V the circular groove (72) on the outer part of the container, only a slight pressure is re quired in order to hold the container outside the case while being used. The container now forms a real lipstick as the liquid rouge in on its interior, having passed through the conduit (r) when the case was inverted. has moistened the chamois leather cover (cl) and can now be passed over the lips, this operation being facilitated by the bevelled sides at form something similar to the 9* sharpened edge of a lipstick; all these opera-- tions being efi'ected with the use of only one hand.
After colouring the lips, the finger releases the pressure on the cap (91) so that the container is allowed to fall back into the case and the cap pressed down over same.
The difierent parts comprising this apparatus may be manufactured from any suitable material.
Having thus described the nature of my invention what I claim as new and wish to protect by Letters Patent is: r
1. An improved container and case combined for toilet purposes adaptable to substitute lipsticks and the like, comprising a cylindrical container of various diameters, pro
vided with a circular external groove, a top portion bevelled on both sides in order to formrthe sharp edge of lipstick and provided with a conduit which communicates with the interior of the container, said bevelled portion being covered with a chamois leather cover held in position by a ring, a bottom portion adaptable to be closed with a stopper, an interior of two diameters, one forming a tube in direct communication with the conduit in the upper portion, said container being adaptable to be introduced in a case provided with an upper cap or cover hinged to same and a bottom cap or disk, both constructed in such a manner as to snap into position and close the case, the top cap being provided with an innerridge that combines with the circular groove on the outside of the container in order that when the latter has fallen out of the case a certain distance to be retained by the larger diameter portion abutting against the circular ridge in the interior of the case it is held in this position by a slight pressure of the finger against the upper cap resting on the side of the container allowing the ridge provided in the cap to combine with the groove on the container. 2. An improved container and case combined as claimed in claim 1, adaptable to be used as a lipstick and substantially as described and illustrated.
In testimony whereof I 21% my signature.
