Description
Nv. 245, 1930. H. B. lvEY v 1,782,725
VANITY QAsE l Filed Feb. 15, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Attorney Patented Nov. 25, 1930 HENRY B. IVI'JY, OF GOLDSBYORO, NORTHUCARLINA application mea rebrualy 1,3, 1929. semina. saires?.
This invention relates to an improved special article carrier which may be broadlyzdelined as avan'ity case andwhich is made forl accommodating and making readily accessible a pluralityv of different but closely associated devices, whereb to provide a compact and convenientv assem4 lage for. use particularlyby the feminine seX.
The principal aim is to provide a novelcontr'ibution to this art which is economical inA use and construction, unusually handy, ex-l ceptionally efficient in performance, and capable of' fulfillingthe requirements of a product of this class1n a successful manner. In the drawings:
Figure 1I isa view in section through the complete device, showing the relative association o'fparts.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof. Figure 3 is a bottom plan view. y Y Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional viewV taken approximately on the line 4--4 of Figure 1. 1
Figure 5 is a horizontal section taken on the line 5--5 of-Figure l.
Figure 6 is a horizontal sectional view through the body portion of the casing.
` Figure 7.is a top plan view of the swingable door of the casing.
detail I In carrying out the invention I provide a vnovel .cylindrical casing which includes the body portion 9 seen better in Figure 6. This embodies a discllike bottom 10. at one end and a shallow specialarticle` receptacle 11v at the opposite end. f
Obviously vthis receptacle is intended to accommodate individual .cosmetic articles.
' the battery.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of a special container is provided at its bottom with -an' inflammable wick 17. Arranged in theupper compartmentl is a cylindrical battery-18wh`ose upper contact is positioned for electrical engagement with the contact of'a miniature illuminating bulb 19. This bulb is arranged in the receptacle 11. The device 20 shownin4 Figure 8, is associated with this compartment and also with Vthe.,parts 16 and 18'. This de- I\vice comprises, a` partition disc 21 arranged between :the adjacent ends of the parts 16 and 18 and provided with a central contact button 22 which rests against the bottom of y There is also a current conducting arm. 23
vwhich extends alongside of the battery up through an opening in the bottom f- 'the receptacle 11. On the upper end isa knob like externally arranged contact 24, which, when the lid 1'2 is swung open completes thev circuit to `light the lbulb 19. There is also an inwardly extending retaining linger 25, normally spaced above the bottom of the r'eceptacle. This serves to maintain the device 20 in place, when thecylindric'al compartment 15 is empty. y A substantially semi-circular cover 26 is hinged as at 27 (see Figure 5) to the casing. This cover vis provided at its bottom with a` retaining finger 28, cooperable with the v headed stud 29 for limiting the opening of the cover or door 26. However, by disengaging this part 28 from the pin 29, the cover can be com letely opened as shown in Figure 3. Swingailily mounted within the casing. and concealed by the door 26 isa cigarette ca rrier 30. This comprises the segmental body whose innerportion conforms to and surrounds the cylinder 16 and whose outer verticaly face is formedI with -a pluralityof channels for cigarettes 31. As shownin Figure 1, the receptacles comprise vertical; grooves having sockets 32 at their lower ends in which the cigarettes are placed. In addition, a spring retaining band 33 is provided 95 for holding the cigarettes in place.- Obviously, then, when the door 26 is swung open, the cigarette carrier 30 is readily accessible for-convenient removal and use of the cigarettes.
seen that the gist of the-invention is in providing a single device including Ia plurality communicating with the opening in the side of the casing, said body portion being further provided, at its lower side, with a series of sockets communicating with the adjacent ends fof. the channels for the reception of the endszof the cigarettes and an arcuate resilient `retaiislg arm mounted on the body portion and extending transversely across the channels intermediate their ends for retaining the cigarettes therein.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
` H. B. IVEY.
of distinguishable features. For inst-anfee, 'at i the topof the casing is a special articlecontainer for cosmetics, a hinged lid with amirror, and a complemental illuminating bulb or light for illuminating the face of the mirror to render the mirror usable at night time. ThenV there is a conveniently located and readily removable battery. Incidentally it should be stated that the disc 21 is detached Y, from the arm 23 and the arm restsv in curf j `rent conducting contact with the periphery thereof, the dise being positioned between. the tank 16 and the battery 18, whereby to facilitate removal and renewal of the parts.
It is further to bestated that the light 19 is illuminated when the cover is swung open and brought into electrical engagement with the contact knob 24.
A further feature to be noted lis the, cigarette and cigar lighter conveniently positioned on the bottom of the receptacle as well as the swingably mounted closing door and 1 the swingably mounted cigarette carrier on the interior of the casing. All of these parts are so associated as to provide for compactness and `convenience of arrangement and ready accessibility. y
A careful consideration of the drawings in conjunction wit-h the specification will enable the reader to obtain a clear understanding of the features-and advantages of the invention. Therefore a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.'
Minor changes in the shape, size and rearrangement of details coming within the ield Aof invention elaimed"may be resorted to, in
actual practice, if desired.
I claim: 1
A special article carrier of the character described comprisingl a cylindrical casing having an open side, said casing closed at its opposite end, a cylinder extending longitudinally through the casing adjacent one side thereof adapted to contain a storage battery, a hinged closure for the opening mountedy on l the casing, a cigarette carrier mounted in the casing' and comprising a body portion which is co-extensive with the interior of the casing and provided with a longitudinally eXtending recess in one side for the reception of the cylinder and havingparallelvertical channels in its periphery at a point substantially diametrically opposite from the recess and,-
