Description
Sept. 27, 1932. L. c. MONROE CHANGEABLE SIGN HOLDER Filed Dec. 21, 1931 Patented Sept. 27, 1932 UNETE STATES LELAND o. MONROE, or MARCELINE, MISSOURI CHANGEABLE sitar; HOLDER- Application filed December 21, 1931.- Serial No. 582,418.
The invention relates to a sign holder and more especially to changeable sign, card or the like holders.
The primary object of the invention is the a provision of a holder of this character wherein a sign, card or the like can be conveniently held therein so that the same will be clearly visible as for example in exhibiting indicia such as is now commonly employed to identify to an iceman the required pounds of ice to be delivered to a customer, the sign, card or the like is susceptible of being reversed or changed at the will of the user of the holder and the indicia as present thereon may be 5 serviceable for advertising purposes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein its construction enables the mounting thereof upon a horizontal or vertical support and when so mounted will firmly and securely hold a sign, card or other dlsplay med1um without liability of the accidental release of the same resultant from high wind or otherwise, the holder being of novel form and permitting the removable mounting of the sign, card or the like therein.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose, strong, durable, neat and attractive in appearance, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, whichdiscloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out i in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention and mounted upon a horizontal support, showing a sign therein.
Figure 2 is an end elevat1on with the sign in vertical section.
Figure 3 is a plan View of the blank from which the holder is made.
Figure a is an end elevation of a modified formof'holder showing by dotted lines a sign held therein. 1
Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the modified form of holder is made.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
1 Referring to the drawing in detail, the holder in the making thereof is constructed from a sheet metal blank A cut and bent to form a strip-like body 10, one end portion being intermediate the bendable side wings 11, these being bent upon crease lines 12 to be disposed parallel with each other and in spaced relation correspondingly to the width of the body to be disposed at opposite side edges thereof. The wings 11 are upwardly tapered and have formed at their wider ends ears or tongues 13, these being bent on crease lines 14 so as to extend laterally outwardly from the wings 1l in the same plane with each other and have therein holes 15 for accommodating fasteners 16 so that the holder may be securelymounted upon a horizontal support 17 with the body 10 rising vertically therefrom. V i
, The wings 11 have formed therein rest notches or seats 18 for accommodating the lowermost edge of a sign, card or other like element 19 while the body 10 at itsupper portion is bent and formed into an upwardly and outwardly curved resilient or spring latching extension 20, the same being formed with a channel or groove 21 transversely therein removed from its free end for accommodating the uppermost edge of the sign, card or other like element 19 and in. this fashion the latter will be detachably and reversibly retained in the holder so that indicia as may be present on the outermost face thereof can be displayed and made visible.
The free end of the extension constitutes a finger grip or tab 22 so that the sign, card or other like element 19 can be readily released and detached from the notches or seats 18 in the wings ll of the holder.
The body 10 at desired localities is formed with holes 23 for accommodating fasteners 24 when it is desired to mount the holder upon a perpendicular or vertical support 25,
the holder being shown mounted upon the horizontal support in Figure v1 and upon the vertical support in Figure 2 of the drawing.
In Figures 4 and 5 of the drawing there 6 is shown a modified form of the invention wherein the holder comprises a tapered strip like body 26'ha'ving the upper resilient or spring latching extension 27 while the lower s end is formed with an outwardly and up- 1 wardly curved seat 28 so that a sign, card or other like element'29 can be engaged iii the seat 28 and with the latch extension 27 for the fastening of such sign, card or other like element within the holder as will be 15 obvious from Figure 4 of the drawing. This type of holder with the body 26 is made fast to a Vertical support 30 through the medium of fasteners 31 engaged in holes 32 in said body.
89 What is claimed is 1. A holder of the character described comprising a fiat sheet-like metallic blank cut and bent to provide a strip-like body, side wings bent at rightangles to the body at one s, end thereof and having notches forming a seat for the lowermost edge of a sign, card or the like, and a resilient upwardly and outwardly curved latching extension forming a continuation of the body for engagement with the uppermost edge of the sign, card or the like.
2:. A holder of the character described comprising a flat sheet-like metallic blank cut and bent to provide a strip-like body side wings bent at rightangles to the body at one end thereof and having notches form ing a seat for the lowermost edge of a sign, card or the like, a resilient upwardly and outwardly curved latching extension forming a continuation of the body for engage ment with the uppermost edge of the sign, card or the like, and ears bent laterally from the lower ends of the wings and having apertures.
# In testimony whereof I aflEiX my signature.
