Description
BED BOTTOM HANGER MECHANISM Original Filed Sept. 24, 1930 J8 INVENTOR- BY Man/um J/L d A TTORNE y Patented June 7, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM S. BROWN, OF CARTHAGE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO' LEGGETT AND PLAT'I.
SPRING BED AND MAN UFAGTURING- COMPANY, OF OARTHAGE, MISSOURI, A COR- PORATION OF MISSOURI BED BOTTOM HANGER MECHANISM Original application filed September 24, 1930, Serial No. 484,068.
October 12, 1931.
My invention relates to improvements in bed bottom hanger mechanisms.
The object of my invention is to provide a bed bottom hanger mechanism which is novel, cheap, strong durable, and easily and quickly adjustable to fit bed frames of different Widths.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
This application is divisional of an application filed by me September 24, 1930, for an improvement in spring bed bottoms, having Serial Number 484,068.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of my improved bed bottom hanger mechanism.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an outside elevation of my improved hanger mechanism.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates an outwardly extending horizontal flange of an angle side bar of a bed bottom frame, and 2 a vertical flange of said bar.
The flange 1 is provided with a depressed portion 3 having a downwardly extending projection, which, as shown, is a pin 4 threaded at its lower end on which is removably mounted a thumb nut 5.
6 designates a horizontal hanger bar under and adapted to bear against the under side of the depressed portion 3, and which is adapted to rest upon a side bar 7 of a bed frame. The hanger bar 6 is slidably mounted in a slot 8 in the flange 2 and is provided with a longitudinal row of vertical holes 9 each of which is adapted to have extended through it the pin 4, which holds the bar 6 in the position to which it may be adjusted to suit the width of the bed frame on the side bar of which the bar rests.
The thumb nut 5 serves to retain the hanger bar 6 attach-ed to the angle side bar of the bed bottom, when the latter is removed from the bed frame 7. By providing the separated holes 9, the hanger bar is held from longitudinal movement in the flange 2. The outer Divided and this application filed Serial No. 568,324.
end of the hanger bar 6 is provided with a downwardly extending flange 10 adapted to engage the outer side of the side bar 7. If desired, the nut 5 may be dispensed with.
To change the adjustment of the hanger bar, the nut 5 is removed, the angle side bar is ]lifted to withdraw the pin 4 from the hanger The latter is then adjusted longitudinally to the desired position after which the side bar is lowered and the pin 4 inserted through the proper hole 9, following which the nut 5 is replaced on the pin 4 below the hanger bar 6.
Four such hanger bars 6 may be provided, two in each of the two similar angle side bars of the bed bottom frame.
Modifications of my invention, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from its spirit.
lVhat I claim is 1. In a bed bottom. hanger mechanism, a bed bottom angle side bar having a horizontal flange provided with a downwardly extending pin threaded at its lower end, said side bar having a vertical flange having a slot therethrough, a hanger bar adapted to rest on a bed frame and extending through said slot and bearing against the under side of said horizontal flange and having a hole through which said pin is adapted to extend, and a nut mounted on said threaded end below said bar.
2. In a bed bottom hanger mechanism, a bed bottom angle side bar having a horizontal flange provided with a downwardly extending pin threaded at its lower end, said side bar having a vertical flange having a slot therethrough, a hanger bar adapted to rest on a bed frame and extending through said slot and slidable therein and bearing against the under side of said horizontal flange and having a longitudinal row of holes through any one of which said pin is adapted to ex tend, and a nut on said threaded end below said bar.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM s. BROWN.
