Such a lo'n'gistripf is difficult tohandle when it be- I coin'es necessary to take particulars from the amenity: .i r J According to the invention'the machine is provided with an attachment or device cornprising a; removable. spool or roller upon When the strip has been fully wound upon the spool the letter is removed andiplaced in II II ;upbn the rernovable spool duringwhich -the necessary pzvrtichlars can be noted from vin the order-in which" data"reco fcledthereon and the chief object of" the present invention is, to overcome this which" thestrip of paper issuing from the machine is'wou'fidas' the operation of the machine proceeds, the said spoolorroller being I I I I I I I I I by the arm or bracket B, this nut serving'to l preferablyrotated by a spring" so. as to wind or'roller e's'thels'trip issues from the machine.

In order that the said invention 'be.

gripthe spool between iti'and a; collar D on the spindle. I This spindle has 'at'vitsend remote from thenut a pinion D which "is driven through it suitable multiplying gearing such as that shown in Figure 2 by a clock spring D? which canfbe wound up'by means of a wingmember Dfl'thlsaid springfend its associatedparts being carried by'thelarm or bracket B. Pivotallyj carried'by'th'e' arm. or bracket B thereis a flat springrnniber b' (Figure 3) having an operating handle I)"; this "spring meinber' co-operates' with a double pawl b? pivoted to the said arm or bracket and the arrangement is'fsuchthat when the said spring'[ mernber is noved' to either siclefot its inid position shown in Figures 3 and 4. the pawl will be springpressed p into engagement, with the internal" teeth on '1 the drum operatedby. the pinion: D whilst positionlthe pawl isfheld out of engageinent with the teeth. I In this manneryuie clock? work mechanism can beilockedjand releesed I The arm or bracket ispivoted' B to chine and an eccentric adj u'sting device E is provided for the purpose pfedjustingthe saidarm orbricket angularly about the pivot rect position for properly receiving the strip fully wound upon'the spool thenut D is rev moved and the spool is'withdrawn from the spindle D. The spool is then placed in position as hereinafter described in the separate contrivance shown by. Figure which comprises a base plate E, side plates E, E and a spool E The end of the strip on the spool C is then inserted into the slit of the spool E and the strip is wound upon the latter spool by means of a handle E with which the spool E isprovided. The said strip can then be-rewo-und'upon the spool C by means of a handle C and during this rewinding operation vthe data recorded upon the strip can be noted in the order in which itwas recorded in the machine. The provision of a handle on each spool enables the direction of movement of the strip to be reversed if it is desired to refer backto the data on part of the. strip alreadyrewoundupon the spool C.
s As aforesaid one of the flanges C on'the spoolQ ismade detachable so that when the rolled up strip is finished with this flange can be removed to enable the roll of stripto be slipped off the barrel and stored away with an elastic band around it to prevent unwinding. The spool C is thus free for further use.
As shown in Figure 6 the spool C is detachably mounted in the contrivanceof Figure 5 in the following manner :-passing through holes in the side plates E, E and through the barrel of the spool C is a spindle ctprovided with the aforesaid handle C the boss of which is journalled in one of the holes and bears against the bossof one of the flanges C." The 'end ofthespindle remote from the handle C is screw-threaded to receive a nut C having a plaincylindrical part journalled in the hole in theother sideplate. By tight ening this nut the spool can be gripped to the handlejand spindle and on removing it the spindle canbe withdrawn to enable the spool to be removed, the reverse operations being performed in placing the spool in position in the contrivance. The spool E may be similarly held in position in the contrivance.
