The present invention relates to bottle caps of the crimped type and has for an object to provide an opening attachment adapted to fit under the cap after the same has been secured in position upon the mouth of the bottle and provided with a tongue adapted to extend across the top of the cap and constituting a gripping means through which the cap may be easily and quickly removed from the bottle.

A further object of the invention is to provide a drinking attachment in the form of a flexible ring adapted to fit over the lip of the bottle to prevent contact thereof by the mouth of the person while drinking from the bottle, said attachment being adapted to be folded and carried under the tongue of the bottle opener while the same is secured in position upon the mouth of the bottle by the cap.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, efficient in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easily secured in position upon the bottle without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction of the usual bottle cap, inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

vention comprises a bottle cap removerconstituting a body portion 5 substantially in the form of a disc adapted to be seated upon the cork insert or padding 6 usually mounted upon the upper edge of the lip 7 formed on the neck 8 of a bottle and interposed between the usual crimped bottle cap 9 usually employed for forming a closure for the mouth of the bottle, the cork insert being adapted to constitute a liquid tight seal therefor.

At substantially opposite sides of the body 5 are formed downwardly extending fulcrum members 10 adaptedto engage the lip 7 of the bottle at substantially opposite sides thereof, said body also having a tongue 11 formed at one edge intermediate the hooked members 10 and adapted to extend across the top of the body portion in slightly spaced relation from the upper surface thereof, the tongue intermediate its ends being formed into a hooked shaped extension 12 adapted to fit under the lip 7 in a manner similar to the hooked members 10 with the material forming the tongue at the termination of the hooked sections being bent in a reverse direction in slightly spaced relation whereby to enable the edge of the cap 9 to be fitted therebetween as clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings, in a manner enabling the crimped flange of the cap to secure the hooked members 10 and hooked extension 12 to be After the cap has been secured in position with the cap disposed beneath the same, the end of the tongue 13 may then be bent diametrically across the upper surface of the cap with the extremity 14 thereof extended downwardly and frictionally retainedunder the lip 7 of the bottle at the opposite side thereof. drinking attachment may be conveniently carried, when folded, between the upper surface of the body portion 5 and the tongue 11 as shown in Figure 3, it being evident that upon placing the cap 9 in position for sealing the mouth of the bottle that the attachment will be securely retained in position thereby.

The cap 9 may be quickly and easily removed from the bottle by grasping the end 13 of the tongue and pulling the same upwardly so as to cause the disengagement of the hooked section 12 from the lip 7 of the bottle. After the cap has been removed the drinking attachment 15 is then available for placing upon the lip of the bottle for drinking purposes.

If desired an opening 16 may be formed in the extremity 14 of the tongue to enable a sharpened instrument to be inserted therein to release the extremity 14 from engagement With the edge of the cap and thus move the same into gripping position.

Also one edge of the drinking attachment 15 may be crimped in a manner as illustrated at 17 in Figure 5 to provide a better gripping engagement between the attachment and theneck of the bottle.

It is obvious that the invention is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. In a bottle cap remover of the class described, a body member having a pair of hooked members extending from opposite ends thereof and adapted for arrangement in gripping relation with the lip of a'bottle and a tongue extending from said body portion at one edge thereof intermediate the hooked ends and adapted to extend across the face of the body portion in spaced relation therefrom, said tongue also having a hooked section formed therein intermediate its ends conforming with the contour of the lip of the bottle and provided with a return bend in the tongue for extending diametrically across the top of the bottle in spaced relation from .its body attached sectionand with the free end of the tongue formed with a hook also engageable with the lip, said hooked members and hooked section permitting the fitting of a bottle cap .thereover in interposed relation between the spaced portions of the tongue whereby to retain the cap in position thereon.

2. A bottle cap remover of the class described comprising a substantially disk shaped body having a pair of book members extending from opposite sides thereof and adapted for engagement in gripping relation with the lip of a bottle, said disk having one side between said hook formed with a flattened edge, a tongue extending from said flattened edge of the body and extended across the upper face of the body in spaced relation therefrom and having a hooked section formed intermediate its ends adapted to fit over the lip of the bottle and with the free end of the tongue formed into a return bend, said hook members and hook sections permitting the fitting of a bottle cap thereover, said tongue having its end outwardly of the return bend adapted to extend diametrically across the upper surface of the cap with its extremity arranged in frictional gripping relation with the edge of the cap at a position opposite from said hooked sec tion.
