To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL 'lnnoc, residing at Enderby, in the Province of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Poison-l3ottle Tops, oi which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in bottle stoppers and particularly to stoppers for use in connection with bottles contain ing poison or other dangerous liquids and is designed to warn the user of the character of the contents of the bottle.

Another object of the invention is the provision or" a device or the above character, by means of which a stopper may be secured against accidental displacement and which will render it necessary to manually release the stopper before the contents of the bottle can be removed.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device which is adjustable to bottles of different sizes and which may be removably positioned so as to permit of its reuse upon other bottles when desired.

Another object of the invention is the provision or" means for holding the stopper attached to the bottle as the liquid is poured or dropped therefrom, the stopper when in this position, in no way interfering with such pouring or dropping.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction and cheap to manufacture and which includes a securing band, out from a single piece of material and bent to the desired configuration and a stopper cap likewise i'ormed and detachably secured to the stopper by means of an ordinary corkscrew.

The invention further consists in the following novel features and details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In illustrating the invention, there is shown a portion oi. a bottle, which may be of any desired size and shape and which is designate-c 10. T plied with the usual cork 11.

The invention, which is entirely separate from the bottle and cork may be purchased by the user and thereafter applied to the bottle and cork, or may be furnished with a bottle as desired. It comprises a cap 12, which is cut from a single blank of material and is preferably circular in plan, having its marginal edges split inwardly as indicated at 13 to permit the surrounding edge of the cap to be bent downwardly as shown, so as to fit over the head 14 of the bottle mouth. The cap is also provided with a lip 15, which is formed by bending over upon itself a strip of material extending from the edge of the cap. Located diametrically opposite this strip is a lug 16, which is likewise formed and this lug is provided with anopening 17, for a purpose hereinafter apparent. The cap is secured in position through the medium of an ordinary cork-screw 18, which is inserted through an opening 19 in the cap 12, and is screwed into the stopper 11.

Surrounding the neck or the bottle below the bead 14, is an adjustable band 20. This band is provided at one end with a loop 21. which is formed by bending inwardly toward one another, oppositely extending lugs 22. This band is adapted to receive a tongue 23 formed upon the opposite end of the band, the tongue being inserted through the loop 21 and bent over upon itseli as shown. For, adjusting the band 20 is an arm 24, which is bent to provide an inwardly extending finger 25, which is adapted to overlie the to of the bead 14 adjacent the bottle mouth.

oe bottle may be sup'-" The arm 24 and finger 25 are provided with I openings for the passage of a vertically extending arm 26. The lower end of this arm is provided with a loop 27 by means of which it is secured in position and its upper end is curved outwardly and has its extremity bent as shown'at 285. This arm 26 is passed through the openings 17 in the leg 16 so as to provide a sliding and pivotal mount ing for the cap 12 and the bent extremity 28 of said arm prevents the removal of the cap.

After the hand 20 has been secured upon the bottle neck, the stopper 11 may he inserted within the mouth oil the bottle, whereupon the lip 15 will engage the inclined portion 32 ot' the spring catch an d press the same outwardly, so that the catch 31 will spring over the upper surface of the lip to hold the stopper against accidental removal. The stopper may be easily removed by springing the catch and removing the stop per, whereupon it may be slio along an arm 26 and moved 'pivotally to the position shown in Fig. 8, so that the contents of the bottle may be easily removed. The invention may be readily removed from one bottle and applied to another by straightening the tongue and sliding the same through the loop 21, so that a single device may be used in connection with various bottles.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:

1. The combination with a bottle and a stopper there-for, of a cap removably secured to the stopper, a. vertically extending arm for slidably and pivotally securing the cap to the bottle, a compound curved extremity for preventing the removal of the cap from the arm, and means including a spring catch for holding the cap against accidental movement.

2. The combination with a bottle and a stopper therefor, of a cap reinovably secured to the stopper, and means for removably securing the cap to the bottle, said means being formed from a single piece of material and comprising an adjustableband, an arm extending from said b3-11d,'111d a spring catch also extending above the band for engagement with the stopper cap.
