Description
J. HABIB SAFETY RAZOR Nov. 12, 1929.
l Filed Sept. 25, 1928 Joseph Habib B y zzomqy Patented Nov'. y12, 1929 UNITED STATES JOSEPH HABIB, OF YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY :RAZOR yApplication filed September 25, 1928. Serial No. 308,256.
This invention relates to an improved safety razor of the type utilizing a removable but rigid blade.
The principal novelty is predicated upon the particular construction of a sheath-like blade holder and guard, and means carried thereby for adjusting kthe blade as it becomes worn from frequent honing and stropping.
Other 'features and advantages of the invention will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in section and elevation of a safety razor constructed in accordance with the present invention, n
Figure 2 is a bottom plan View of the sheath-like holder with the thumb screws omitted for sake of clearness;
' Figure 3 is a perspective view of an adjustable follower, y
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary detailed sectional and elevational View showing the position of the follower more clearly.
In carrying out the invention IL provide' a sheathlike blade holder generally designated by the reference character 5.' This is in the form of a metal plate of resilient metal bent upon itself as at 6, to provide upper and lower' portions 7 and 8. The portion 8 has at its free edge laterally curved guard teeth 9, extending beyond the corresponding edge portion of the upper part 7. Adjacent the bend 6 the holder is provided with openings one of which is screw threaded to accommo date a screw threaded connecting shank 10 of the manipulating handle 11. Incidentally this handle is also provided with a stop flange 12 whereby threading the threads into the threaded openings the two portions 7 and 8 of the holder clamp against opposite sides of the cutting blade 13. This cutting blade is not of the customary flexible'type. Instead it is of the permanent or rigid type and it is therefore provided with a reinforced back or rib 14 which in the present instance lits into the grooved portion ofy an adjusting follower 15. This follower is in the form of a sliding block and it has screw threaded studs 16 extending out through elongated slots 17 in the portion 8 and carrying thumb nuts 18, detailed in Figure 4. With this arrangement the follower may be adj usted forwardly as the blade wears to compensate for wear and to dispose the cutting edge of the blade in proper relationship to the guard teeth 9.
From the foregoing description and drawings it will be seen that I have evolved and produced a novel safety razor which is characterized principally by permanent rigid type of razor blade fitting into a specially designed holder and including as one of its features an adjustable follower, whereby the blade may be adj usted to compensate for wear.
It is thought that by considering the foreq going description in conjunction with the drawings, a cleary understanding of the invention and its features will be had. Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of parts may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.
I claim:
A safety razor comprising a blade having a reinforcing bead on its rear edge, a holder for the blade formed from a single sheet of metal and of substantially U-shaped cross section including spaced upper and lower plates and a connecting bight portion, the plates converging toward the forward edges for engaging in the opposite faces of the blade adjacent to the front edge thereof, said plates also receiving and engaging said rib,
a follower block between said plates receiving the rib having depending guide pins, one of said plates havingguide slots for receiving said pin, and lock nuts threaded on said pins for engaging the mentioned plate.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
y n JOSEPH HABIB.
