There are approximately fifty-four different kinds and sizes of backings for artificial teeth, which a manufacturer must keep in stock for the supply to his trade, and prior to my invention it was the custom to keep these backings in mass in difierent receptacles, and orders were received for various numbers of backings. For instance, an order is received for 5, 10, or other number of backings the employee filling the order would grasp a bunch of backings from the mass and drop the required number in a loose or a small envelope, seal and mail the same. Now there are instances when a customer would report that the required number were not received in the envelope and rather than dispute the customers claim the manufacturer would send thenumber reported as short. When it is considered that many backings are made of gold and others of precious metals it can be appreciated that such mistakes frequently repeated result in a very material loss during a year to the manufacturer.

Another objectionable feature of sending the backings loose in an envelope is that they do not lie uniformally fiat in the envelope and consequently the corner of the backing and the post. of the backing tear through the envelope and some are lost in this way from the envelope. Still another objection to sending the backings in a loose mass in envelopes is that they will join against each'other which frequently results in the posts of the backing becoming bent, or the joint between the backing and post becoming loose, or otherwise damaged.

The object of my invention is to provide a shipping card in which are formed a plurality of slots, in which the backings are mount ed securely against accidental dislod gment, which card with its mounted backings may be placed in an envelope and mailed, the slots holding the backings in place on the card. The reference numeral 1 designates a packing or shipping card, for the backings' for artificial teeth, embodying my invention. This card is provided with an opening 2 whereby it may be conveniently hung upon a hook or other support. The card is further provided with a plurality of slots 6 therethrough which may be of any desired shape, but I prefer to make them substantially dumb-bell shape, inasmuch as the circular end of the slot facilitates the introduction of the post 3 of the backing 4, into the slot, the post 4 being on one side of the card and the backing 3 on the other side, while the web 5 of the post is seated in the slot.

I prefer to arrange the slots 6 in groups of 5 making ten slots to the card, said groups being spaced from each other, so that in the event of an order for but five backings the card can be cut in half, each half bearing 5 backings.

In using these cards it is impossible for an employee to make a mistake in filling it because the slots are before him and the card is not completed until all slots are filled with Y backings. The cards may be filled and stored by hanging on a hook, or otherwise, and

when an orderis received for a particular kind of-backing a card of such backings is lifted from its hook and placed in an envelope and mailed; thereby speeding up very materially the filling of orders and reducing to a minimum the liability of mistakes in the number of backings shipped, in addition to which the liability of the b-ackings tearing through the envelopes and the damage to the hackings is entirely eliminated.

In the claim I may use the term central medial post to include the post 3 and the rib 5,. and I may refer to the backing 4 as a flat plate like member.

What I claim is:

In combination, a shipping card for backings for artificial teeth, said backings consisting of a flat plate like member provided with a central medial post, the said card comprising a fiat sheet body and being formed with a plurality of slots; said posts being engaged and retained in said slots with said member flat against the card.
