The present invention relates to a new type of box with cover and makes it possible to open the box in a very simple manner without soiling the hand and bending the edges of the box.

There are boxes with cover known to the prior art, which attempt to attain the same end, some of them having a lid the edge of which projects over the lower part of the box to facilitate opening by being knocked oif.

int this does not always insure opening of the box unless the lower part adheres firmly to the cover.

Other attempts in this direction found expression in boxes provided with a cover of circular shape, which possess a certain resilience, so that the edge of the lid moves outwardly when the latter is depressed and thus permits the removal of the lid. In these constructions the edge is very narrow and must envelop so to speak a roll-edge of the lower part.

Referring to the drawing, 1 is the top with a circular cover surface 2 curved upwardly and the edge 3 which is curled at 4 and is in direct contact with a support such as a table and the like. The lower part 5 receives the contents of the box and is held by the edge 3 in the known manner.

6 is a circular upwardly curved intermediate plate inserted between the lid 1 and the lower part 5, the edge of the intermediate plate resting on the upper edge of the part 5.

The box is preferably made from sheet iron or any other suitable material. The curved cover surface 2 permits of being bent downwardly while the intermediate plate 6 is made of rigid material so that it will not change its shape when the curved surface 2 begins to in response to pressure, but is pushed down while retaining its rigidity. During its downward movement the inter mediate plate 6 pushes the lower part 5 out of the cover so that the lower edge of the bottom part 5 also rests on the support such as a table and the like, whereupon the cover 1 together with the intermediate plate 6 can be readily lifted off to make the contents of the box accessible.

I claim A. box provided with a cover projecting with its edge over the lower part of the said box and possessing a curved, circular and resilient surface and with an intermediate plate of rigid material inserted between the cover and the lower part of the said box and adapted to be pressed down in response to the yielding surface portion of the said cover.
