ILLUMINATED Application filed April 9,
The present invention pertains to improvements in display devices including illuminary means as well as -envolving certain moving parts intended when in operation to attract persons, so that they will'notice the advertising media associated therewith.
One of the most important objects of this invention is to provide a display device of the above character which may be conveniently mounted without considerable prepara tion.
Another object resides in the provision wherein a plurality of lights are arranged at the outer ends of arms radiating from a stationary body containing advertising matter with means for successively flashing these lights as the radiating arms rotate about the advertising medium.
Still another object resides in the means employed for rotating the radiating arms, as well as novel means for making and breaking the current successively to the various lights.
Other novel objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the same is better understood from the following specification and claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the rotary light carrying body, which is preferably star-shaped and arranged around a central stationary advertising medium.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through the device disclosing the novel details thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary and sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2, and
Figure l is also a sectional view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Now referring to the drawings more in detail, like numerals will indicate like parts of the invention. For the purpose of supporting the present display device, a suitable post 1 is provided for journally supporting the device at its upper end.
A U-shaped plate 2 is secured to the top end portion of the post in clamping relation with an elongated sleeve 3. The bight portion of this plate is formed with an opening through which a suitable lubricating cup 4 may be inserted for threaded engagement in the sleeve 3 for delivering the lubricant renter nnvren.
192s. Serial no. 268,655.
T he circular or disorder plate 5 is provided with an elongated tube 6 projecting from its center outwardly, and adapted for journaled relation within the sleeve 8. The outer end of this tube terminates/attire outer end of the sleeve 3, while the front side of the disc 5 has secured thereto a star shaped body 7 of preferably hollow construction. p
, By reason of this particularly constructed body 7, the same is provided with a plurality of radiating hollow arms 8 which are adapted to carry light bulbs 9 at their respective outer ends; The front wall of this star-shaped body is formed centrally with a circular opening 10., while a strap 11 is arranged within the star-shaped body in the manner clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3.
A grooved rim 12 is secured to the back side of the body 7 concentric with the tube 6, and over which a suitable belt 13 is trained and driven by preferably an electric motor 1% mounted at a convenient point on the post '1.
A circular lamp box 15 is arranged within the opening 10 and provided in its front wall with a window 16 of some translucent material and upon which suitable advertising matter may be placed. The rear end of this lamp box isopen, while a disk 17 provided with a circumferential flange 18 is adapted to be arranged within the open end of the lamp box in the manner shown in Figure 2.
An electric conduit 19 is threaded at each end and arranged through the sleeve 6 so that one end thereof will project rearwardly beyond the adjacent end of the sleeve, while its opposite end is adapted to be secured to the central portion of the disk 17.
A, bracket plate 20 is secured at one end to the post 1, while its intermediate portion is inclined outwardly and its upper end portion bent vertically and formed with a threaded opening to receive the threaded end of the conduit 19. The jamb nut 21 is threadable on this threaded end of the conduit for tight engagement against the bracket plate 20 for maintaining the conduit 19 fixed against rotation.
In this manner, the lamp box 15 is maintained in a stationary position, while the sleeve 6 and the disc 5 carrying the starshaped body rotate around the same.
In Figure 3 of the drawings, the straps 11 each carry a pair of binding posts 23 to which the leads 13 from the respective lamps 9 connect. Each of these binding posts has secured thereto aspring brush 24 adapted to be normally sprung inwardly toward the axis of the body 7.
The lamp compartment is provided at a certain predetermined point on its periphery With a plate 25 of insulating material. Arranged in parallel relation on this insulating plate is a pair of contact strips 26. The threaded bolts 27 project through the insulating plate and the Wall of the lamp box, While the nuts 28 on each of said bolts is adapted to electrically connect the leads 29 to the said bolt.
Obviously, When the motor 14 is energized, the star-shaped body 7 Will be caused to rotate, While the lamp box 15 remains stationary. As the brushes 24 successively engage the contact strip 26, the circuit will be closed through the feed wires 30, through the lead Wires 13 to therespective lamp 9,
The intermittent flashing of the lamps 9 is intended to attract the attention of persons passing by, who may read the advertisement on the glass Window 16 of the stationary lamp box 1 r Having thus described the invention, What I claim as new is 1. In a display device of thecharacter described, a support, a rotatable display body j ournaled on said support, a stationary lamp box arranged Within said rotatable body for displaying readable matter, lamps arranged on said rotatable body, circuit closing means between said rotatable display body and the lamp box for intermittently flashing said lamps, and means for maintaining the lamp box stationary While the display body is rotating.
2. In a display device of the character described, a support, a display body, a sleeve projecting from the center of the body and journally mounted on said support, said display body being formed with an opening, a tube disposed through said sleeve, means at one end of the tube for retaining the same against rotation, and a stationary lamp box secured to the opposite end of the tube for disposition Within the opening of the display body.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
STEPHEN SNODGRASS.
