HAIR CLIPPER.

This invention relates to a hair clipper comprising-an adjustable comb for varying the cutting height during the cutting. The
hair clipper improved according to the invention presents the advantage over vhair clippers of known type that the adjusting comb is shiftably guided in two directions the 'one at an acute angle to the other so that the comb ma be adjusted during the 1 hair clipping within the widest limits in any desired distance from the plane in which the clippin knives are situated, or to move the same a ong the knives away from the cutting edges of the same of such a distance that it becomes ineffective and the hair clipper can be used for making, during the hair clipping, cuts from the minimum length to the maximum length. Inthis manner cuts of any des'red length can be made by means 30 of this hair clipper without the necessity of exchangin elements or of carrying out complicated adjusting work.
According to the invention the adjusting comb is movably held'by a slide which itself is guided on the machine frame near the cutting knives by means of a pull spring and connected at the other end to a hand lever in such a manner that the adjusting can be efi'ected by accordin oscillation of the hand lever. At the first p ase of movement of the hand lever the comb which stands at a greater distance from the knife plane is moved towards the knives to be then shifted along the stationary knife so that it moves back completely and becomes inefl'ective.
The guidin of the hair clipper and the adjusting of t e comb can be carried out with one hand accurately as is the case with hair clippers without 'an ad'usting comb. 40 n embodiment of t e invention is shown, lay way of example, in the accompanying rawings in whic Fig. 1 shows in side elevation, partly in longitudinal section, the improved air clipper, the comb being adjusted to a great distance from the cutting point.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, the comb being in a position close to the cutting The hair clipper, consisting of .1. handle a a stationary knife 6 and a movable knife 6, has a comb g in front of the stationary knife I) which comb is held by a slide it and preferably constructed as a double comb in such a mannerthat a second comb g. is hingedly connected to thepoints of the stationary comb g which is rigidly fixed on the slide. A blade spring f serves to press towards the stationary knife 6 the lower end of the comb g, which is oscillatably mounted on the axle z. By the second combg' the hair are well guided, this being of great importance for the proper execution of the cutting work. The slide k is pressed by the action of springs is, arranged near the cut ting knives, from below against the handle a. The rear end of the slide h is hingedly connected to a pull rod m which passes through the rear transverse wall a of the handle or casing a and which is at its other 7 end pivotably connected to a hand lever pwhich is oscillatably mounted on an axle n. By means of this hand lever p and of the pull rod m the distance of the comb g from the cutting knives b, d may be altered at will during the clipping, it being merely necessary for this purpose to make the lever p oscillate towards the casing a in opposition to the pressure of a spring a or to release the hand lever p sufliciently so that the spring 8 can make it oscillate in opposite direction.
In order to adjust the machine for predetermined cutting lengths the pull rod m has several holes 0 and the transverse wall a has a bore 1-, so that, by means of a pin to be inserted through one of the holes 0 into the bore r, the pull rod m and the hand lever p and through the samefthe comb 9 can be secured in any position.
In order to determine the minimum length of the cut, a second row of holes t, rpendicular to the direction of the row of oles 0, may be' arranged in the ull rod m. A pin inserted into one of sai holes t serves as abutment to limit, by striking against the inner surface of the transverse wall a, the longitudinal displacement of the slide h, whereby exciting of the desired minimum distance of the comb g from the knives d, e is determined.
In the form of construction shown it is supposed, that the slide it be situated outable knife standing atan acute angle to said handle, a comb in front of said knives, a hand lever oscillatably mounted on said 10 slide shiftably mounted on the lower surhandle close to said knives and pivotably face of said handle its frontportion being connected approximately at the middle, to bent at the same acute angle at which said said pull rod, and a blade spring acting upon 6 knives stand to said handle, a link connectthe inner end of said hand lever and pressing said comb to said slide, a spiral spring ing the same away from said handle. for pulling. said slide from below towards In testimony whereof I aflix my signasaid handle, a pull rod hingedly and adjust-ature. bly mounted on the rear end of said slide, a WILLY BORE-MANN.
