AppIication filed May 4, 1926. Serial No. 106,661.
My invention relates to applicators which may be used for readily and eiiiciently treating the hair or skin with any desired applicating medium such, for instance, as a hair dye 5 or a skin medicament. The applicator comprises, generally, a comb and an element rotatably mounted on the comb along oneside thereof, said element being preferably removable and carrying a suitable applicating medium for the hair or skin.
My invention, in one of its aspects, comprises a rotary brush as the apphcatmg medium applying element and, in another of its aspects, comprises a roller as the medium applying element, said roller being preferably provided with a removable tubular cover of absorbent material impregnated with the applicating medium.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings,
in which v r Fig. 1 represents the applicator in top plan with a brush as the rotatable applicating material applying element.
Fig. 3 represents aside View of the same. Fig. 4 represents a detail side view of the applicator with a large roller as the rotatableelement. I
Fig. 5 represents a similar view with a small roller as the rotatable element.
Fig. 6 represents a detail view of one of the rollers with its absorbent tubular cover removed therefrom.
Fig. 7 represents a detail view of the removable absorbent tubular cover.
The applicator comb is herein shown as comprising a toothed front portion 1 and an uprising back portion 2, the said front toothed portion having uprising ears 3 and 4 in which the journals of the element which carries the applicating medium are rotatably mounted. A suitable handle 5 projects rearwardly from the said uprising back portion of the comb.
One or both of the uprising ears 3 and 4 may be made yielding so as to permit the ready insertion and removal of the rotatable element which carries the applicating removable absorbent tubular cover 10,, im-
Fig. 2 represents a front view of the same.
located along the upper side of the toothed portion of the comb may be a brush 6, treated with an applicating medium or it may be a large roller 7 having a removable absorbent tubular cover 9, or a small roller 8 having a pregnated with the desired applicating medium, which applicating medium may be, for instance, a hair dye or a skin medicament.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided an applicator inwhich the desired type of rotatable element may be readily inserted or removed and in which the absorbent cover for either the large or the small roller may be readily removed and inserted. 'This will permit the applicator to. be used for a wide range of purposes with the f least possible disturbance of the parts.
vVhat'I claim is 1. An applicator comprising a comb and an applicating medium carrying brush rotatably mounted on the comb along oneside thereof. I
2. An applicator comprising a comb and an applicating medium carrying brush rotatably and removably mounted on the comb along one side thereof.
3. An applicator comprising a comb having a toothed portion and an uprising back portion, a handle projecting rearwardly from said uprising back portion, and an applicating medium carrying element rotatably mounted on the toothed portion of the comb along the upper side thereof. 7 v
4. An applicator comprising a comb having a toothed portion and an uprising back portion, a handle projecting rearwardly from said uprising back portion, and an applicating medium carrying element rotatably and removably mounted on the toothed portion of the comb along the upper side thereof.
' In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 23rd day of April, 1926.
ALFRED T. WARREN.
