1 Claim. (Cl. 132110) This invention relates to what might be termed a hair treatment comb, and has for its principal object the provision of a comb combined with an absorbent pad whereby the hair can be polished and burnished with the pad while being combed to present a clean, attractive appearance.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined comb and pad in which the pad may be used for applying hair preparations simultaneously with the combing operation so as to obtain a uniform application throughout the head of hair and throughout the entire length of the hair.
A further object is to provide a comb which may be employed for applying hair tint rinses and hair dyes to the hair during the combing operation so as to obtain a uniform distribution of the dyes and tints.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail con struction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy and efficiency. These will become more apparent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a side elevation of the improved hair treatment comb;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough; and
Figs. 3 and 4 are cross-sections therethrough, taken on the lines 33 and 4-4, respectively, Fig. l.
The improved comb comprises a handle portion and an inverted, elongated, U-shaped, channel portion 11. The two sides of the channel portion 11 extend downwardly beyond the latter in parallel spaced relation. The downwardly extending portions of the two sides are provided with comb teeth to form two spacedapart toothed combs 12. The space in the channel portion 11 above the combs 12 forms an open-bottomed, box-like enclosure having a front wall 13 and a rear wall 14.
An elongated, rectangular, absorbent pad 15, of felt or other suitable relatively soft absorbent material, is inserted in the box-like enclosure between the two combs 12 and between the front and rear walls 13 and 14. The width of the pad 15 is such that it will extend downwardly between the interstices of the teeth of the two combs 12 preferably for a distance slightly less than onehalf the length of the teeth.
The pad 15 can be easily slipped from its enclosure in the comb by inserting a pin or other sharp instrument between the teeth and pulling the pad from place. A replacement pad can be quickly and easily inserted by simply forcing it between the two combs into the the channel portion 11. The handle portion 10 may have any suitable shape and contour to provide a comfortable and ornamental hand grip.
It can be seen that if the hair be combed with the pad 15 in place, the hair will be drawn across the edge of the pad to clean and burnish the individual hairs to give a bright, attractive appearance. To apply hair tint rinses and dyes or other treatment preparations to the hair, it is only necessary to dip the channel portion 11 of the comb into the treatment solution and then comb the hair in the regular manner. The hair will be drawn across the moistened pad 15 to uniformly distribute the solution throughout the length of each individual hair and uniformly throughout the entire head of hair.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:
A hair treatment comb comprising: an inverted channel member having a completely closed top, closed sides, and closed ends, the bottom of said channel member being open throughout its length; an aligned set of comb teeth formed on and extending downwardly along each side of said channel member in parallel, spaced-apart relation to form an open-bottomed, box-like enclosure having a closed top and two parallel, spaced-apart rows of teeth extending downwardly along each side thereof; an elongated, rectangular absorbent pad contained within said box-like enclosure between the aligned set of comb teeth, said pad extending downwardly below the upper extremities of said teeth and terminating above the lower extremities of said teeth; and a handle member mounted on said box-like enclosure.
