This invention relates to a fastener of hook-form and a removable mounting therefor, and has for its object, broadly, to provide a metallic hook for use as a fastener, the mounting of the hook being such that it may be held without being permanently attached and may be removed.

In the use of aprons by barbers, butchers,

' dentists and others, adjustments mustbe made to correspond to the individual. and size of the neck or body, and it is an object of the present invention to illustrate convenient means for these adjustments.

Also since the kinds of aprons mentioned require frequent laundering it is important that any metallic part used as a fastener should be removed, and the present invention has for one of its objects to provide a mounting of such construction for a metallic hook that the latter may be readily attached to the apron or removed therefrom.

Another object is to provide fasteners for aprons which will not become injured during the operation of ironing or while moving through a mangle in the operation of laundering, and to provide fasteners for aprons which will be durable and may be conveniently manufactured.

With the foregoing objects in view, and others to be mentioned, the invention presents a new and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-

Referring now to the drawing for a more particular description, the invention is shown and described in connection with an apron 8 provided at each end with a neck band 9. Each neck band preferably consists of fabric folded upon itself to provide a flexible body of ample length to surround the neck with its end-portions disposed in overlapped relation.

Numeral 10 indicates a fabric strip which is provided with a plurality of eyelets 11 uniformly spaced at intervals of its length, said band being secured at its longitudinal edges to the neck band by rows 12 of stitches, its-ends being secured to said neck band by rows of stitches 13.

The parts thus described provide a. holder or fastener for one end portion of a neck band, the opposite end-portion of the neck band being provided with a metallic hook fas- I tener which, together with its removable mounting will now be described.

For this last named fastener we provide a metallic hook consisting of curved prong 11- having a shank 15 provided at its terminal with a projection 16. Numeral 1'? indicates a flexible strip which is secured to the end-portion of the neck band opposite to the strip 10 by rows of stitcheslS, stitches 19 also being used at its ends for securing said strip to the neck band. As best shown in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawing the fabric strip 17 engages both sides of the neck band. Numerals 20 and 21 indicate a pair of eyelets which are formed in the strip 17 in its inner side, its outer side being provided with a flap or finger-piece 22.

As thus described it will be seen that the hook it may be readily mounted upon the strip 17 and may be removed therefrom, this being an important feature to permit laundering. It will be understood that, for mounting the hook in operative position, the prong 14 may be inserted in the eyelet 21 and by pressing the hook gently the shank 15 will move through said eyelet- 21, the prong 14 moving outwardly through the eyelet 20, and since the projection 16 has a greater area than the eyelet 21 it will operate as a detent and prevent any further movement of the hook. Also it will be understood that the pick may be readily removed from the eye- In the use of the apron, the neck band is adjusted in such a manner that it will fit snugly upon the neck, especially during the operation ofhair cutting by a barber when cutting the hair of a patron. It will be understood that the eyelets 11 provide for adjustments and the book may engage in any re quired eyelet 11 so that the neck band may closely engage the neck. The function to be discharged by the flap or hand-hold 22 is to provide a part which may be grasped when adjustments are to be made. In making said adjustments the flap 22 may be held by'an operator While the end-portion of the band and the hook are moved for engagement of the hook in a selected eyelet 11 upon the opposite end-portion of the band, and on account of the use of the flap 22it will not be necessary that any part of the hand or finger should be inserted between the neck band and neck of a patron, the element 22 operatingas aeonvenient holder for these purposes.

It will be appreciated that the eyelets 11 and pair of eyelets and 21 willnot become injured or unduly Worn by operation of laundering the apron since they will not present any rough surfaces such as wings or ridges.
