Description

March 10, 1931. E R McMoRRls 1,796,156
BATTERY CORROSION ELIMNATOF Filed Sept. 23. 1929 INVENTOVI ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 1o, 1931 PATENT ,OFFICE EMIL MCMORRIS, F MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA BATTERY-CORROSION ELIMINATOR Application led September 23, 1929. Serial No. 394,719.
This invention relates to a device for preventing corrosion of battery terminal clamps vand the like, the general object of the invenvtion being to provide a member of absorbent 5 material, with a clamp for clamping said l member on a battery terminal clamp so that Ysaid member may be impregnated with oil or the like so that the oil will come in contact .with the battery post, terminal clamp and A cable, and thus prevent corrosion of the parts.
This -invention also consists in certain other features of Construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter-fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specilically pointed out in the appended claims. Y
. In describing the linvention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and'in which v Figure l is a perspective view of the device. Figure 2 is a fragmentary view showing the device in use.
l Figure 3 is'a view similar to Figure 2, but taken at right angles to Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Figure 3. v
Figure 5 is a view showing a modification of the device.
Figure 6 is a section on line 6 6 of Figure 5.v
As shown in these views, the device corn- 85 prises a substantially U-shape'd member l of spring metal, preferably of a non-corrosive nature and a pad 2 of absorbent material eX- tends through the device with its central part connected with the bight of the member 1,*either by a rivet 3 or the like, as shown in Thus when the pad is saturated with oil or the like, some of the oil will pass over the post an-d the clamp and thus prevent corrosion of the parts and this oil will permit the terminal clamp to be easily and quickly removed from the post and replaced thereon and without danger of injuring the post or clamp. As shown, the device can be easily and quickly snapped over the clamp without removing the clamp from the post. It will, of course, be understood that the pad must be saturated with oil, such as motor oil, now and then, so that the battery parts will be kept well lubricated to prevent corrosion.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts` provided that such'changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In combination with a battery and its terminal clamp, a pad saturated with a fluid for preventing corrosion of the post and clamp and means for detachably connecting the pad with the clamp, such means consisting of a member formed of spring material which supports the pad and having means for engaging a part of the battery clamp.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
I EMIL It. MCMORRIS.
