F. J. POSER COVER ATTACHING MEANS FOR PRESSING' 80m Filed March 29. 1928 Patented Jan. 13, 1931 UNITED" s'l'a res PHILLIP. 3'. Bosnia, or BRONX, NEW Yonm-nssreuon'ro ALBERT rosnn, or new YORK,N;Y.
covmmmemm MEAiiTSTOBjERESSING BOARDS Application filed was, 1928. Seria1iNo. 2G 5, 692. I
My invention relates to new and useful able said cover' to bequickly and readily re moved, when desired, for sanitary purposes or otherwise.
It is awell known fact that on the principal garment pressing machines now in use or on pressing tables of the domestic type, covers are applied by meansof-a cord or flexible connection which require'theflop-i erators time to the extent of possibly one half hour in installing. volves the threading ofthe rope or connection through a pocket or other connections on the cover, the tying of the rope or connection after the cover has been fitted to the board, allof which consumes a suiiicient time to be considered a loss'in business,
My invention contemplates the provision of means for quickly and readily securing a cover to a board which means are under tension so that the cover will b e drawn tightly across the board at all times.
A further object of my invention resides in providing an elongated coil spring which is cngaged'with a pocket formed at the edge of the cover, ends of the coil spring being connectibl-e removably with a transverse yielding connection, whereby when the cover is applied to the board, said cover will be yieldin'gly drawn across the board andhcld both longitudinally and transversely;
A still further object of my invention rcsides in providing an improvement on my co-pending application filed March. 3rd, 1928, Serial Number 258,782, in that the present invention provides fewer parts of simpler construction and less: expensive to This operation in-- Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of a pressinanufacture thanthe construction shown in r i previously filed application,
, Withthese and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and 5G arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter referred to" and more particularly pointed. out in'the specificationand claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this-application? Figure 1' is a bottom plan view, partly in sectionand with parts broken away, of a pressing board orbnck with a cover applied thereto and secured in place by myimpro-ved attaching means. 9 Figure? is a tran'sverse section therethrough as'seenon the line. 2 -2 of Figure l :Figure 3 is an enlarged detailed PGI'SPQC." tive view of the attaching means removed and ingboard witliaslight modification of the invention applied to use thereon.
In describing the invention, '1 shall refer to the drawing in which'similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 1 designates a pressing board of the usual or any preferred type,'I having shown the form which is known as the lower buck of a garment pressing machine supported on the pedestalor arm 2, such as is usually provided in pressing machines ofthe type referred to, although itwill be understood that my invention is applicableto useon pressing boards or bucks of any preferred or desired t pe- I V I 4 I It will also be understood that for convenience I have shown a pressing board or buck known as the lower buck on a pressing machine, but my improved cover attaching means is applicable to the upper buck or head ofa pressing machine just as well.
'To the board 1 is applied a cloth cover 3 of the usual or any preferred type, cut, of
course, to the desired shape to conform to the contour of the pressing board to which it is applied. The edge of the cover is folded over uniformly with the edge of the fold stitched to the body of said cover, thus forming a pocket l therearound. A portion of the pocket is cut away about centrally along one side edge, as shown at 5 to form a slit therein, and into this pocket 4 through the slit 5 is introduced an elongated coil spring 6, the ends of which are formed into eyes 7, which are adapted to meet in the cut away or slit portion 5, as shown in Figure I of the drawing;
swivelled eye 9. Obviously, with this coil spring held in place 7 thereon. The coil spring is, of course, slightly shorter in length than the complete length ofthe cover, so that the pocket will be drawn to a position on the bottom face 'of the board 1 when said cover under tension of the spring is applied.
In order to assist in yieldingly retaining the cover in position onthe pressing board, particularly to take up the wrinkles trans versely, I provide a transverse flexible connection which consists of a short coil spring 10, the one end of which is providedwith a hook 11 adapted for engagement withthe swivelledeye 9. i To the opposite en-d ofthe spring 10 is connected a well known type of spring clasp 12, the latter being adapted for engagement with the pocket enclosing the spring 6 at a point diametrically opposite the cut away portion 5,as' clearly. shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. In this manner,
the cover will, obviously, remain securely held in position on thebuck: or pressing. board yet be capable of quick-and ready removal whendesired.
In view of the loss of time'ordinarily required to remove and replace the cover on pressing tables and bucks, they are seldomreplaced-by tailors and pressers except where absolutely necessary. Under such circum-. stances, one frequently notes. that a cover will be extremely soiled and worn when viewing a pressing machine where garments are being pressed. Thus, ordinarily the covers used are very unsanitary and with my improved attachment, this unsightly and unsanitary condition may be obviated.
In Figure l, I have shown a slightly modified form the invention wherein a cover 13 is applied to a table l loflarger proportions than ordinarily. used. The cover is constructed exactly as shown and thepreviously described form having a pocket init-s edge which receives a coil spring 115 similar to the spring. Thecut out portionl7, siiiiilarto the cut away portions" 5' is disposedfne'arer one end of the" cover, however, softlia't the Connectedwith these eyes7 is a snap hook '8 provided at its end with a transverse connection 18 which comprises the same elements as the transverse connection previously described is disposed nearer one end of the table. I then provide an additional transverse connection which comprises a coil spring 19 to the ends of'which are removably engaged the spring clasps 21. Obviously, these spring clasps are engaged with. the pockets of the cover enclosing the coil spring 15 below the face of the table 14:,
as clearly shown in F igure' 4, and adjacent the opposite end of said table or board from that at which the other connection is disposed. f
: The principle involved in the modified form shown in Figure 4 is the same as that involved in th'e preferred form of the invention, there being but one added element and that-being'the additional transverse spring connection .so that two. transverse yielding connections are provided for use on long'pressingboards or bucks.
From the foregoing description of the constructionof my improved'device, the operation thereof will beread-ily understood and it will be seen; that Ihave providie'dfa simple, inexpensive and eiiieient'means for carrying out the objects of the invention; i 7
\Vhile I have particularly described the elements best adapted to'perfor'm the functions set forth,'-it is obvious that v'arious' changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing fromth'e spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I:
claim is:
1. A cover attaching means for pressing boards'comprising an elongated coil spring, a snap hook detachablyconnecting the ends of said spring together and having" a swivelled eye thereon, and a transverse yielding meanshavin g one end thereof in engagement withsaid eye and means at the'opposite end of said yielding means for detachable engagement with the spring at a point opposite therein at a point opposite theopening in the poeketland intermediate the ends of said cover! p 3; A pressing boar-d cover comprising a sheet having its edge turned over to. form a continuous marginal pocket, the pocket havlng an opening at a point therein a sprlng housed in the pocket and having end' por- 'tions entering the opening thereof'and a I stretching means foi' the sheet comprising a tension spring having means atone end de-, tachably adaptedto engage the exterior'sur face of the pocket and at its other end means adapted to enter the opening of the'pocket and connect with the ends of the first menf tioned spring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PHILLIP J. POSER.
