The shuttle 1 may be of the usual filling replenishing type provided with the bobbin chamber 2 in which the bobbin 3 is detacha-bly supported in order to permit replenishment by the transfer of a fresh filling carrier or bobbin in the shuttle and the ejection of the spent one, but since such form of the replenishing shuttles is now well-known, further description and illustration of these features are unnecessary.
Forward of the bobbin chamber 2 is the longitudinal thread passage 4, and communicating with the thread passage is the side delivery eye 5, and these parts may be of usual character.
Filling 'eplenishing shuttles which are an tomatically threaded during the loom operation are usually provided with a threading block, of which there are many types, so that on the first pick of the shuttle following replenishment the thread may enter the longitudinal thread passage and thus become partially threaded, and on the next pick of the shuttle the thread may be passed for delivery to the side delivery eye. The threading block 6 is shown as a top plate which is secured to the shuttle by a screw or bolt 7 passed through a side projecting flange of the top plate, and from said flange the top plate extends forwardly to form a thread deflector 8 between which and the shuttle body is a passage 9 leading to the side delivery eye. The top plate, in the present instance of the invention, extends towards one side of the longitudinal thread passage where an opening 10 is formed to permit the thread to pass downwardly from the top plate into the longitudinal thread passage on replenishment of filling, as indicated in Fig. 1, where it will be noted that the thread a leading from the filling carrier or bobbin is passed downwardly from the top plate into the longitudinal passage, the shuttle being shown as having been supplied with a fresh filling carrier or bobbin having thread wound thereon. The construction thus far described may he of any usual character to effect preliminary threading of the shuttle on the first pick thereof following replenishment.
Mounted on the shuttle are the tensioning' members, the ends of which remote from the bobbin chamber are secured to the shuttle, and the ends adjacent the bobbin chamber are free, and while two such tensioning members are shown in the present instance of the invention, there may be any convenient number. In any case, however, one at least, of the tensioning members shall be-yielding or resiliently movable towards and p from the companion tensioning member or members.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the tensioning members 11 and 12 extend longitudinally of the thread passage and are preferably, though not necessarily, provided with bends, as shown, throughout the main portion of their length. The ends of the tensioning members remote from the bobbin chamber are mounted upon a screw or pin 13 which extends upwardly at the frontward end of the thread passage, as shown, and is held in place by the nut 14. The ends of the tensioning members remote from the bobbin chamber are turned about the pin or bolt 13, as indicated at 15 and 16, and are clamped in place on the pin or bolt by means of an internally threaded sleeve 17 which serves to secure the ends of the tensioning members re mote from the bobbin chamber in fixed position.
In the present illustration of the invention, the pin or bolt 13 and clamping sleeve 17 are disposed at one side of the longitudinal center of the thread passage, and in such case the end portions of the tensioning members extend from the bends 15 and 16, as shown by dotted lines, Fig. 1, at 18, and from the ends of the portions 18 the tensioning members 11 and 12 extend longitudinally of the thread passage towards the bobbin chamber where their ends are free or unconnected with the shuttle.
At the free end portions of the tensioning members there is a thread director, the function of which is to cause the swirling thread on the first pick of the shuttle following replenishment to be guided about the plurality of tensioning members as a unit, as indicated in Fig. 3. The thread director may be variously contrived but in the present instance of the invention it is formed of a generally circular or curved member 19 which is accured to one of the tensioningmembers, as, for instance, the tensioning member 11, as indicated in Fig. 1, and the other tensioning member 12 is unconnected with the thread director but extends therethrough, and may be provided with a knob or enlargement 20 to insure the continuous operative position of parts.
The thread director, as more clearly shown in Fig. 2, consists of a curved member carried by the tensioning member 11, and provided with an opening 21, whereby when the thread has been wrapped about the tensioning members as a unit on the first pick of the shuttle following replenishment, the thread will be directed through the opening 21 and there after lead through the thread director to the w 'appings on the tensioning members.
Since one of the purposes of the present invention is to provide for yielding movement of the tensioning members relatively within the wrappings of the thread to respond to the pull of the thread during weaving and maintain tension thereon, and to talie up slack when the thread is relieved of pull, the tensioning members, or at least one of them, are

which is generally similar to the corresponding tensioning member of Figs. ,1, 2 and 3, has its end remote from the bobbin chamber turned outwardly at 22, and its end portion securedby a screw or bolt .23 in a recess 24 formedinthe side wall of the shuttle. An automatically threading loom shuttle having a bobbin chamber, a longitudinal thread passage, and a side delivery eye communicating therewith, two thread tensioning members, one of which is yieldable towards and from the other and both extending longitudinally of the thread passage with their ends remote from the bobbin chamber secured to the shuttle and having their ends adjacent the bobbin chamber free that the swirling thread may be wrapped about both tensioning members as a unit by the swirling or revolving movement of the unwinding thread when the shuttle is picked and be subjected to tension by the combined action of the tensioning members.
6. An automatically threading loom shuttle having a bobbin chamber, a longitudinal thread passage, and a side delivery eye communicating therewith, two thread tensioning members, one of which is yieldable towards and from the other and both extending longitudinally of the thread passage with their ends remote from the bobbin chamber secured to the shuttle and having their ends adjacent the bobbin chamber free that the swirling thread may be wrapped about both tensioning members as a unit when the shuttle is picked and be subjected to tension by the combined action of the tensioning members, and a thread director at the free ends of the tensioning members for directing the thread about said members.

An automatically threading loom shuttle having a bobbin chamber and side delivery eye, a plurality of thread tensioning mem bers between the bobbin chamber and side delivery eye extending longitudinally of the shuttle and having their ends remote from the bobbin chamber secured to the shuttle and their ends adjacent the bobbin chamber free, and a thread director at the free ends of the tensioning members for directing the thread about said tensioning members as a unit when the shuttle is picked following replenishment to cause the thread to be wound upon the tensioning members by the swirling or revolving movement imparted to the thread as it unwinds from the filling supply.

An automatically threading loom shuttle having a bobbin chamber, a longitudinal thread passage and a side delivery eye communicating therewith that the shuttle may be automatically threaded, a plurality of thread tensioning members constituted as relatively resilient arms extending longitudinally oi. the thread passage having their ends which are remote from the bobbin chamber secured to the shuttle and their opposite ends free, one of said arms having a curved thread director at its free end that the thread may be wrapped about the plurality of arms as a unit bers constituted as arms extending longitudinally of the thread passage, one of which at least is yieldable towards and from the other and both having their ends remote from the bobbin chamber secured to the shuttle and their opposite ends adjacent the bobbin chamber free and constructed so that the thread will be wrapped about said arms as a unit by the swirling or revolving movement imparted to the thread it unwinds from the filling supply on the first pick of the shuttle following replenishment of filling that the arms may act yieldingly within the thread wrappings to tension the thread and take up slack.
10. An automatically threading loom shuttle having a bobbin chamber, a longitudinal thread passage and a delivery eye communieating therewith, two thread tensioning members constituted as arms extending longitudinally of the thread passage, one of which at least is yieldable towards and from the other has been Wrapped about the tensioning memhers.
