Thejtabs 19 and 20 are Fig; 11 "is a fragmental view depicting a thenfol'ded sof-that'the tab 1%) willbe disposed tab arrangement which may be used in the above the edge 26'of the portlon 16,wh1chwill device. I 50 like whichis preferably composed of metal. which bears on the portion 16; adhesively secured thereto and it will be thus seen that a pocket 28 is provided which is closed on its upper side by the flap 18. The flap will be folded so that the fold line thereof will be disposed along the fold line 22 and thus one face of the tab 20 will bear against a portion of the portion 14 along the lower edge thereof and this face of thetab 20 is adhesively secured to the portion 14. It will thus be seen that a pocket 29 is provided which is open alon its upper side and therefore, one of the cards to be described hereinafter may be inserted into this pocket, and-the tab on the card will protrude above the upper edge of the card receiver and the ruled portionsof the card will be visible by reason of the opening 15. Inasmuchas the flap 18 closes .the upper side of the compartment 28 and inasmuch as this compartment is effectively closed along all the other edges thereof, it is {apparentthat it may be used for the storage of money and the like, either in theform of coin. or paper currency.
In providing ahousehold budget system, I have arranged a plurality of cards ina definitemanner which will now be set forth and .I havefound that by proper use of these cards a very efficient system will result which used properly will effect savings for the user. The face of these cards is indicated at 30 and has a tab 31 provided therein which is adapted to extend above theupper lateral edge of the card. The face of the card is ruled horizontally so as.to provide a plurality of spaces .32. Along the right hand edge of the card the spaces 32 are consecutively numbered as indicated at 33 .and a vertically extending line intersects the lines providing the spaces 32 so as to provide spaces in which these numbers may be imprinted and this line is indicated by 34 in the drawing. Spaced from and parallel to the line 34 is a line 35 and thisline provides in the spaces 32 spaces 36 in which titles corresponding to the numbers in the spaces 33 maybe arranged. The remaining portion ofthe card is preferably divided into four columns 37,38, 39 and 40 and these 001- umns are preferably ruled with an additional line so as to facilitate'the entry of dollar and cents therein.
Instarting to use this budget system, it is first necessary that the various items ofeX- v,penditure of the user be listed in the spaces 36 and these items would be given a correspondinginumber from the numbers indicated at 33. he column 37 is headed by the title" First iestimatel and in this column the user of the .device Wlll set dowuopposite the items in the spaces 36 the amounts he intends to appropriate for the items in these spaces 36. After eachof the items listed in the spaces 36 has been appropriated an amount a total is obtained which is entered in the column oppositethe word Totals If this total is greater or considerably less than thefusers income,
,tothe estimates made.
changes will be required which are entered in the column 38 under the title of Corrected estimate, and when these items are added, the totals should substantially equal the users income. After the foregoing has been c0mpleted, the user is then ready to make entries on theitem cards whichare indicated by 41 in the drawings. These item cards have tabs 42 provided thereon which are preferably disposed so that when the cards are arranged in the'aboz; these tabs will be staggered one after the other so as to facilitate the removal thereoff-rom the box 10. On the tabs 42 the numbers and titles from the columns 33 and 36 on the card 30 are printed, and as indicated at E 11 certain of these tabs 42 are arranged so as .tobe blank in order that the user may fillin any desired title and number. In the present instance item number 13 which is food is depicted on the card 41 and this title and number appears on the tab 42. Obviously, an item such. as food is usually purchased for cashand therefore, it is preferable that the card 41 be associated with one of the card holders hereintofore described and generically indicated by 43 in the drawings. The card 41 is inserted into the pocket 29 and a. stated; hereintofore, the tab 42 projects above the upper edge of the holder 43. On the cards 41 suitable printing is provided which is indicated by in the drawings and in the space provided at 44 the amount listed in the column 38 for the item number 13 is entered. Similarly, the others of the cards 41 corresponding tothetitles 36 areso arranged and the items which willbe paid for by cash are associatedwith holders 43. Certain of the items suchas for example, rent, would preferably bepaid either by check or by amounts drawn from a savings account in. the banlntherefore, it not necessary thatthese cards be associated withholders 43 but they will be merely inserted in proper order in the box 10. After the foregoing disbursements .or appropriations have been made and. the proper amount .of money has been introduced into the pockets 28. of the holders 43 which are associated with certain of the cards41, the userwill then deposit the; remaining balance in the bank either in.alchecking or savingsaccount, or both if desired, disbursement being made according The cards 41 arearranged so as to havea plurality of columns thereon. one of which is arranged for the date, and another for the explanatory cause for the entry to be made in the remaining columns which are headed, In and Out and Balance, the Balance column being arranged so that at all times it will show the amount of currency in the-pocket 28 appropriated to the cardor the amountin the checking or savings account which has been appropriated for the item on this card. Additional cards are provided, one of which is indicated by .45. This. card 45 has a tab 46 bearing the the title, Summary savings accountSum-.
title, Sum1nary cash-card A Another card'- 47 is provided which has a tab 48 that bears the title, Summary checking account-Summary card B, and still another summary card is provided which isindicated by 49- in the drawings, which has a tab 50 that bears mary card C. The summary cards B and C, which relateto Savings and checking accounts have entries made thereon only of the amounts which'are in excess of those required by the cards. Therefore, if when making'disbursements for the various cards, deposits are made in either of these accounts which are to be withdrawn in order to meet items on the cards 41, these amounts are not entered on the summary cards. As stated, these cards are merely for surplus amounts.
At the end of the period for which the cards are adapted to run, which will preferably be I the end ofan income-receiving period, and 7 this will be dependant upon whether the income is weekly, semi-monthly or monthly, or
in any other manner, it is desirable that the items be balanced. This is done by checking 7 up the amounts in the balance columns in the cards 41. If at the .end of the period it is found that there is surplus cash credited to any one of these cards, this surplus cash is entered on summary card in the proper space which will be apparent by referring to Fig. 7, which depicts this card. This card is arranged such that the disbursements made of the excess cash may be indicated thereon and this cash may be distributed in any manner desired by the user, for example, a portion of it may be entered in a savings account, and another portion in a checking account, and if a remaining portion is to be distributed in any manner not specifically accountedfor herein, this will be distributed under the dis bursement heading of Miscellaneous. If any of the excess amounts in the summary card A are to be credited to either savings or checking accounts, these amounts are placed on the proper card 47 or i9.' After the system has been used it will be possible to enter on the estimate card in the column 39 head'-v ed Period average the average amounts which were required by the items in the column 36 and at the end of a year or other definite time thetotal amount disbursed on each item maybe entered on the column 4:0 which. is headed. in thei present instance YearsVout-go.
It is apparent from the foregoing descrip- [tion that I have provided a system for budgeting a household or the like which is arranged such that a very accurate check-up maybe maintained on the various items, on which the income is expended, and in this manner a check-up may be made of items on which too much ort oolittle is being expended. In addition t0 theforegoing, the device is arranged so that cash and the like maybe expeditiously associated with the cards adapted to have theentries of the disbursements made'thereonand in view of the fact that the device may be mounted in a lock box it is apparent that unauthorized access to the cards may be prevented. Y
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variations and modifications, without depart ing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Let- .ters Patent is:
1. A. blank for an envelope-comprising a front portion having an opening therein, a
portion disposed in horizontal alignment with i said front portion and connected thereto along one edge, another portion disposed in vertical alignment with'said front portion integral with said front portion joined there to along the upper edge of said front portion, a member disposed behind said secondnamed member and connected to said front portion along one edge thereof, said front portion having a flap formed on the edge thereof opposite the edge connected to said last-named portion, said flap being adhesively secured'to said last-named portion when'in folded position, said last-named portion hav- 'ing' a flap disposed alongth-e upper edge 1 thereof and adhesively secured to said front portion, said portions being disposed such that when folded they will formtwo pockets, and a flap formed on the upper edge of said second-named portion adapted to close the pocket disposed to the rear of the pocket adjacent said front wall.
' In testimony whereof I afiix mysignature.
