This invention relates to that type of household burglar alarms, for attachment to windows and like house entries, so that on an unauthorized opening of a door or window, a spring impelled alarm mechanism is released to sound an alarm, and this improvement has for its object:
To provide a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of parts adapted for attachment to either the stationary frame or to themovable closure for the frame entry, so that on a relative independent movement of the parts an audible alarm will be given, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the application of the appliance illustrated in Fig. 1, the upper face of the top rail 1 of a lower window sash is used for the fixed attachment of the appliance, while the inner face of a vertical side rail 2 of the upper sash of the window affords operative contact to release the alarm unit of the appliance.
In the form of the appliance shown, the stationary member is of a plate metal formation, having integral members 3 and 3 in angular relation with the member 3 formed with key hole shaped orifices 4: for fixed attachment by headed screws to the top rail 1 of the lower window sash, while the upper end of the member 3 is formed with pivot knuckles 5 for the hinged attachment of an associated carrier plate 6, now to be described.
The swinging carrier plate or member 6 above referred to, is also of a plate metal formation, and is provided at one end with pivot knuckles 7 for pivoted connection b a pivot pin with the knuckles 5 of the stationary member 3. And at its other end said carrier plate is provided with upstanding ears or flanges 8 at its respective sides to provide bearings for the hereinafter :de- 7 scribed shaft 9 of the alarm release mechani'sm of the appliance, with one of said ears or flanges 8 affording means for the, fixed attachment of a spring impelled alarm device. Said alarm device is ofany ordinary type, comprising a bell member 10 andan associate cup shaped housing 11, forming the enclosure for an ordinary spring impelled train of gearing, in which the terminal shaft thereof carries an escapement wheel 12, adapted, to vibratean escapement yoke 13 on which the striker 14 of the bell member 10...is fixedly attached so as to vibrate therewith. and by a series of rapid strokes produce the desired audible alarm. i
.The alarm release of the appliance consists of the above mentioned longitudinally arranged shaft 9, oneend of which is formed with a flat plate extension 15 adapted for operative engagement with an intermediate portion of the aforesaid yoke 13, and in one posi tion is adapted to move and hold said yoke and its escapement pallets in stop engagement with the adjacent teeth of thesescapement wheel 12 and prevent rotation thereof. While in the other position of the extension 15, attained by a partial rotation thereof, the escapement yoke '13 is released from the above mentioned stop engagement of the parts, and admit of the desired alarm to take place. 7 The other end of the shaft 9 aforesaid carries a friction wheel 16 ofany usual forma-, tion, which by frictional contact with an inner face of the upper sash 2 of a window is adapted to receive a turning movement and impart the same to the alarm release shaft 9, in actual use. i
Midwayits length the shaft 9 is formed with a flat plate like portion 9 to provide a bearing for an end extensionl9 of a spring 17 which by contact with-the flat transverse sur face'of such flat portion is adapted to yieldingly maintain the-shaft 9 and its operative connections 7 with the escapement yoke 13 aforesaid in the stop condition above de. scribed. With a partial rotation of the fric v tion wheel 16 and shaft .9, the flat portion 9 rides under the spring extension 19 against the resilient stress of thespring 17 tending 00 to return the parts to the normal condition just described in which the alarm mechanism is held in an inactive condition.
The spring 17 above referred to is preferably of the coiled wire type shown, with its body portion encircling the middle part of the pivot pin between the members 3 and 6 aforesaid, and-withits other end extension 18 .resting upon the member 3, so that the spring will tend to move the member 6 and yieldingly force the friction wheel 12against the side rail 2 of the upper window sash. c
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, is r y 1. A burglar alarm comprising a fixed plate member having pivot knuckles at one end, a movable member having pivot knuckles at one end for engagement with the knuckles of the fixed member and with upstanding flanges at its sides, aspringimpelled alarm unit fixedly secured to one of saidflanges, and having anescapement Wheel and an escapement yoke operatively attached to striker of the sound producing means of the alarm unit, a longitudinal shaft journalled in the aforesaid end flanges, and provided at one end with a flat plate extension for joperative engagement with the aforesaid escapement yoke and at theother end with a friction wheel, and yielding means for holding the yoke and associate parts in an inactive condition. 1 I

A'burglar alarm comprising a fixed plate member having pivot knuckles at one end, a movable member having pivot knuckles atone end for engagement-with the knuckles of the fixed member and with upstanding flanges at its sides, a spring impelled alarm unit fixedly secured to one of said flanges, and having an escapement wheel and anescapement yoke operatively attached to striker of the sound producing means of the alarm unit, a londitudinal shaft journalled in'the aforesaid end flanges, and provided at one end with a flat plate extension for operative engagement with the aforesaid escapement yoke and at its other endwith a friction wheel, and a flat plate portion intermediate its length, and a spring having bearing engagement with the last mentioned fiat portion of said shaft.
3. A burglar alarm comprising a fixed plate member having pivot knuckles at one end, a movable member having pivot knuckles at one end for engagement with the knuckles of the fixed member and with upstanding flanges atits sides, a springimpelled alarm unit fixedly secured to one of said flanges, and having an escapement wheel and an escapement yoke operatively attached to striker of the sound producing means of the alarm unit,'a longitudinal shaft journalled in the aforesaid end flanges, and provided at one endwith a flat plate extension for operative engagement with the aforesaid escap ement yoke and at its other end with arfriction wheel, and a flat .plate'portion intermediate its length, and
