My present invention relates to improvements in fountain brushes which, while adapted for various uses, are particularly designed for use in cleaning automotive ve- 6 hicles. The brush is also adapted for use as a mop, and may in some circumstances be employed in lieu of a polishing rag for polishing and shining surfaces.

InV carrying out my invention I utilize a flexible and shoft brush-back to which is attached a hand strap in order that the brush may be used similar to a cleaning or polishing glove or mitten, thus facilitating the cleaning or polishing operations. A soft, flexible nozzle ring or distributing ring is attached under the flexible'back adjacent to the tufts of the brushnot only for the purpose of distributing the water or liquid detergent, but also to give body to the flexible back, and this construction ofthe brush of soft flexible material insures immunity from scratching the surfaces to be cleaned or polished.

The invention consists in certain novel v combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed. In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention where- ,30 in the parts are combined and arranged according'to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying my invention, showing by dotted lines the distributing head or nozzle ring of the brush.

Figure 2 is a view of the screw coupling sleeve used to join the hose of the brush to a hose nozzle, or other source of supply for the water or liquid detergent.

In carrying out my invention I employ a flexible back l having a downturned flange 2 around its edge. and the back and its flange, which are formed of rubber, canvas, or other soft flexible material are of approximately the size of a hand and of oval shape. On the outer side or face of the backI attach a cross strap 3 having an adjusting buckle 4, and it will be apparent that the fingers of a hand are to be slipped beneath the strap, with the palm of the hand against the back l. By means of the buckle the strap may be adjusted to the hand, and because of the flexibility of the strap and back, the brush may be held by the hand and manipulated for rubbing, scrubbing, or polishing different surfaces.

The brush is formed of a suitable number of tufts 5 of cord, string, or similar material. and the tufts are attached at the under side of the brush-back by fastening devices as 6. At the underside of the brush-back, and adjacent the tufts of the brush I attach a tubular head or ring 7, preferably fashioned of rubber hose, and provided with apertures 8. This apertured head not only forms a distributing ring for directing the water or liquid detergent to the tufts of the brush, but it also performs the function of a brace or reinforcement for the flat, soft, flexible brush-back which facilitates retention of the back by the hand of the user. The distributing ring or nozzle head is secured to the underside of the back by straps 9 or in other suitable manner adapted for the purpose. Preferably the nozzle head is oval shaped to conform to the shape of the back, and its two ends are joined to a Y-coupling. 10, also of rubber, to which a short section of hose 11 is rigidly attached.

The hose 11 is attached to a suitable supply device for water or liquid detergent, by means of a quick detachable fastening device that includes a head 12 attached to the hose 11, and a complementary coupling sleeve or screw sleeve 13. The coupling head 12 and the coupling sleeve 13 are provided with interlocking members 14 and 15 by means of which the head and sleeve may be quickly and conveniently joined or unjointed as desired. t Y
