Description
g- 5, 1930- F. w. c. NEUNER 1,772,427
DAMP CONSTRUCTION Filed Jan. 14, 1928 I ATTORNEYS.
Patented Aug. 5, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT 1 OFFICE,
FREDERICK W. C. NEUNER, OF 'CONNERSVILLE, INDIANA, .ASSIGNOR TO INDIANA LAMP CORPORATION, OF CON NERSVILLE, INDIANA, A CORPORATION LAMP oons'rauorron I 10 fully set forth and described.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claim.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a lamp struc- 5 ture with parts thereof broken away. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. ,1. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the linev 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a plan view taken in the plane of line 66 of Fig 2.
In the drawings there is shown a lamp construction embodying a casing 10 a reflector V 11, a door rim 12, lens 13 and gasket 14.
The casing is provided with an annular shoulder 15 against which the inner curved edge of the door rim is adapted to abut when mounted in position. The casing is further steppedinwardlyto provide an annular seat 34) 16. for receiving the reflector, which seat terminates in the'annular flange 17 extending inwardly toward the body of the reflector, whereby the reflector will; be centered and supported within the casing. The inner diameter of the flange 17 is such that the reflector nests therein andrearward movement is limited thereby.
The reflector is formed with a r'earwardly bent portion 18 having an outwardly extending annular portion 19 adapted to abut the flange 17 of the casing. The portion 19 of the reflector terminates ina rearwardly extend.- I ing flange 20 throughout three sections of its periphery, see Figs. 2, 3 an'di5, and as shown in Fig. 1, each section comprises substantially one-sixth thereof; Intermediate'sections are turnedin the opposite direction to provide forwardly extending flanges 21, seeFigs. 3 and 4.
The flanges 20 are provided with perforations 120 adapted to receive the embossings 22 on seat 16 which extend therethrough so that the casing and reflector are interlocked by reason thereof. The forwardly turned flanged sections 21 embrace and secure the gasket '14 in place with respect to thereflector, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
The lens 13 is held within the door rim' 12 by means of the spring clips 23, said spring clips having leg portions adapted to extend outwardly adjacent the inner periphery of the door rim so as to bear thereagainst, While intermediate thereof there is a hooked loop bent inwardly in position to engage and grip the peripheral edge of the lens for yieldingly securing it against the door rim, see Fig. 2. As shown in Fig. 1, there are three of such spring clips positioned about the lamp.
The door is secured to the casing in the usual manner, wherein it is hooked over the projection 24, see Fig. 5, at the top struck from seat 16 at 124. The door may be secured at the bottom by the screw bolt 25.
By means of the above construction, when thereflector is mounted in position within the casing it is centered therein in proper position by the cooperating parts of the two members. It is so positioned that the embossings 22 spring through the openings 120 provided in the flange 20-of the reflector so that the reflector is held firmly in place. The l gasket 14 may then be mounted about the reflector and held in place bythe flanged sections 21. The lens is secured in the door rim by means of the spring clips 23, whereupon the door rim is mounted and secured. over the front of the casing.
The invention claimed is:
The combination with a rim and a closure supported thereby, of a casing having its forward edge directed inwardly for rim abutment and thence forwardly and thence inwardly in multiple step relation, a reflector nested in said casing and having its exterior engaging the last mentioned inwardly direct- 'ed casing portion for reflector centering and limiting rearward movement thereof, a rearwardly directed outer edge and an outwardly directed flange extending from said reflector and forming a seat, an integral extension forwardly from said flange for gasket retention on the seat, an integral rearward extension from said gasket seat flange for telescopic reception of the forwardly directed portion of the casing, a gasket mounted in the gasket seat and interposed between the reflector and the closure, integral interlocking portions in the reflector and easing telescop c aortions for locking the same to ether, a proection integral- Withthe oasi'ng or-Wardly directed portion for rim engagement and retention, and a detachable connection between the rim and casing for securing the same, closure, gasket and reflector in lamp. formation.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed by signature.
FREDERIGK'W. o.
