This invention relates to a lamp construction.
The chief object of the invention is to simplify and improve a head lamp construction, particularly the arrangement whereby the reflector, lens closure and door rim are all rigidly mounted within or upon the eas- The chief feature of the invention consists in the provision of a lens supporting ring, associated with which is'a U-shaped clamping member which clampingly engages a portion of the closure or door rim for retaining the lens closure in abuttable relation with the clamping ring and in centered relation relative thereto.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is an enlarged central sectional view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the lens, its support and the clamping mechanism associated therewith, the same being taken in the plane of 22 of Fig. 1 with the door rim or lens retainer removed. Fig. 3 is a central sectional view of the bearing ring.
In the drawings indicates the casing of a head lamp construction closed by a door rim 11 which is telescopically associated therewith. Said door rim is extended rearwardly at 12 and a forward inner extension 13 forms an annular groove receiving portion and therebetween in clamped relation is a bearing ring 14, the same having a curled or beaded forward portion 15 for seating or nesting inthe grooved portion 16 of the door rim. Said bearing ring at diametrical points is relieved or offset by inclined portions 17 and a parallel flange 18. A U-shaped retainer having a central portion 19 in the arms 20 is adjustably mounted within the casing by an exteriorly exposed adjusting member in the form of a 21. The free end of the U- shaped clamping member is extended forwardly at 22 and laterally and outwardly as at 23 to bear against the face portion 18 of the bearing ring for retaining the rim or door closure in telescopic position upon the casing.
Inward movement of the door rim is opposed by the same bearing on the lens closure 24, whichin turn bears upon a clamping that bears upon the free and open end of the casing, such bearing being enclosed by the door rim. The clamping ring 25 is slotted at diametrical points 29 and through said slotted portions extend the free ends 22 of the U-shaped clamping member. Thus, clamping action tending to telescope the rim upon the casing is opposed by the lens 010- sure bearing on the clamping ring 25 which bears upon the end of the casing. Rigid with the clamping ring is a reflector 30 associated with which is a light bulb receiving socket 31 and the usual light bulb 32. The
resultant construction is a relatively rigid arrangement consisting of but a relatively few parts and these of simple formation.
The invention claimed is:
1. In a head lamp construction, the combination of a casing, a reflector mounted therein and including an outwardly extending portion formed for lens closure engagement and positioning and for easing engagement, a lens closure, a door rim bearable thereon, an anchoring ring carried by the rim and including a plurality of ofl'set socket and bearing portions arranged in spaced relation, a clamping means between said casing and reflector and having a free end seatable in each socket and bearing on same for securing the reflector and closure within and upon said casing, and a single means extending into the casing and engaging the clamping means for securing the free ends in bearing relation in said sockets.
2. In a lamp construction, the combination of a casing,.-a reflector bearing thereon, a
lens closure bearing thereon, a door rim for the casing bearing on the closure, a ring rigid with the rim and including a plurality of offset socket portions arran ed in spaced relation about the rin for ancIioring and clamping engagement, 0 amping means having a free end seatable in each of said socket portions and engaging the same for clampingly mounting the rim, and atongue and groove connection between said rim and ring for centering and securing the same.
3. In combination, a casing, a lens closure therefor, 21 reflector in the casing engageable by the closure, a door rim engaging one face of the closure and telescoping the cas-' ing, a clamping and centering ring interture and receivable by the adjacent socket I supported within said and bearable thereon for securing the closure 1 to the rim, and a tongue and groove connec-r tion between the bearing ring and the rim for securing thesame together in centered relation.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto af- 15 fixed my signature.
FREDERICK W. C. NEUNER.
