Description
June 24, 1930. M. A. BOLLWINE BRAssIERE Filed Aug. 21. 1928 desi nates a breast ocket.
Patented lunc -24,. 1930 mam PATENT (OFFICE.
MARY A. BOLLWINE, OF TAMPICO, MEXICO BRASSIERE Application filed August 21, 1928, Serial No. 301,077, and in Mexico May 22, 1928.
This invention relates to an improved brassire of the type characterized by permanently shaped form fitting and restraining breast pockets, shoulder straps, and a body encircling member.
My principal aim is to generally improve upon known marketed and patented undergarments of this class by providing one which is individual in appearance, and construction, and such as to better conform to the portions of the anatomy with-which it is intended to co-operate in order to promote comfort, to lend attractiveness to the shape of the wearer, and to otherwise fultill the requirements of an article of this class in a suitable and satisfactory manner.
The particular structural features upon which the principal novelty is predicated, will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a brassiere constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is also a perspective View showing the same attached to a form to give an idea of theappearance when in use.
Figure 3 is a view showing the construction of the rear portion of the garment.
Considering now the details and referring to them by reference numerals, it will be observed that the numeral 4 in each instance Each pocket is of general disc like configuration-in outline and is composed of a plurality of segmental pieces of material stitched together to pro-- vide a form giving cupped socket.
Located between the pockets is a web 5, composed of sections separably connected together, by appropriate hook and eye fasteners or equivalent elements. Connected to the outer peripheral portions of the pockets and extending in a rearward curve are tapered wing like extensions 6, attached at their narrow ends by a connecting elastic strap 7. The numeral 8 designates a body encircling belt or band, which is free of connection with the extensions 6 and which embraces the body of the wearer and is attached to the pockets 4 as well as to the web Connected with the rear central portion of this belt 8are shoulder straps 9, which extend forwardly over the shouldersof the wearer and downwardly across the chest where they have adjustable connection with the pockets 4. Incidentally, a pair of short straps 10 are connected to the pockets and are connected to each other to form V-shaped attaching members. These are provided at the apex portion with an adjusting loop or slide 11, to which the free end of the shoulder strap extends.
The attached end portionof the shoulder straps are formed with loops 13, through which the connected ends of the wings 6 extend slidably. This renders the garments substantially self-adjusting, so that it promotes freedom of movement, and relieves the breasts and complemental portions of the body of undue stress and strain- In fact, the brassiere restrains the body sufiiciently to act as a brace, and to thereby promote health and good appearance.
The garment, when in position, is smooth in appearance, distributes the stresses evenly and aids in developing a good straight carriage of the body of the wearer. The portions, particularly the pockets, do not portion 12 slide or get out of place, or become uncom-.
fortable. In fact, the garments promote comfort and the adjustment for the shoulder straps permits accurate regulation to permit perfect freedom of movement without displacement of any of the parts.
Acareful reading of the description in association with the drawings will enable persons familiar with articles of this class to obtain a clear understanding of the construction, method of application, and advantages of the invention.
Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded unnecessary.
Minor changes in the materials, shapes and sizes may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
claim:
1. A brassiere comprising a pair of form fitting breast pockets, 8. Web joining said pockets together, rearwardly tapering winglike extensions connected to said pockets and adapted to embrace the sides and back of the wearer, an elastic band connecting 5 the narrow ends of said extensions together, and shoulder straps associated with said pockets and extensions, together with a waist encircling band attached to said web and pockets and free of connection with said extensions and elastic strap, said shoulder straps being fastened at their rear ends to said waist encircling band and having adjustable connections at their forward ends with said pockets.
2. A brassiere comprising a pair of duplicate cup form fitting breast receiving pockets, a web arranged between and connected with the inner portions of said pockets, a waist encircling band fixed to the lowermost portions of said pockets and said web,
shoulder straps secured to said band to extend forwardly across the shoulders of the wearer and downwardly across the chest, means for adjustably securing the free ends Rofsaid shoulder strap to said pockets, said shoulder straps at their fixed ends being formed with transversely alined loops, rear- Wardly tapering wing like extensions connected to said pockets to extend rearwardly therefrom and adapted to embrace the sides and back ofthe wearer, the smallest ends of said extensions being receivable through the loop in said shoulder straps, and a yielding connection between the last mentioned ends of said extensions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
" MARY A. BOLLWINE.
