Description

Sept. 14, 1954 A. cocKs BRASSIERE Filed Jan. 18, 1952 INVENTO War/War.
Patented Sept. 14, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in brassieres and has particular reference to a brassiere suitably adjustable to individually support breasts of different sizes and to secure them against objectional vibratory movement relative to the bust.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a brassire having a crescent shaped cup body adjustable relative to a belt to comfortably support the breasts against objectional shakmg.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a brassiere having a belt provided with elastic sections and to the front side of which is attached crescent shaped members with upstanding points, and shoulder straps attached to the rear side of said belt adapted to pass on the shoulders of the wearer to be interconnected with the points of said crescent member by means of adjustable straps slidably mounted on a common ring and adjustable thereon to permit of relation angled relations of the connected parts.
Other objects are simplicity and economy of construction, ease and efficiency of operation and adjustability and adaptability to fit busts of various shapes and sizes.
With these objects in view as well as other objects which will appear during the course of the specification reference will be had to the drawing wherein:
Fig.1 is a perspective view of a brassire shown in operative position on the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a stretch out view of the brassiere.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detached elevational view of ring connector to adjustably hold together parts of the brassiere.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the back connection portion of the belt.
Throughout the several views like numerals refer to similar parts and the numeral In designates a belt made of fabric sections l2 and I4 joined together by means of an elastic band [6. The free end of section [2 is provided with a fabric section I8 carrying a series of eyelets 20 which is covered by fabric 22 on the inside of the belt so as to protect the skin of the wearers body. A belt attaching hook 24 mounted on a looped strand of elastic 26 which is secured to belt section l4 serves to selectively engage in eyelets 20 to obtain the desired degree of tensioning of the belt about the body.
Stitched to belt sections I2 and M by stitching 28 at each side of elastic I6 is a pair of crescent shaped members 30 and 32. These crescent members are quilted at 34 and when closed up as shown in Fig. I serve to form a substantially conical bust cup having a front open section which if desired permits of nursing a baby. Like shoulder straps 36 are attached to belt sections l2 and [4 at the back of the wearer and pass over the shoulders of the wearer and are attached to adjusting slide ring 38 by means of the fastening member 40. This fastener has a series of slots into which the shoulder strap is threaded to support the breasts in the desired position and when the strap is properly threaded it will bind the strap and secure it against slipping.
Each ring 38 has three fastener members 4!], 42, and 44 which are respectively attached to shoulder strap 36, crescent strap 46 and crescent strap 48. Loops 50 pass through ring 38 and the first slot in the respective fastener. The loops 5!] are free to move along ring 38 thus permitting free movement of the body without causing any discomfort to the wearer, furthermore the elastic section [6 and 26 of belt [0 facilitates proper positioning of the brassire during the body movements. Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 it will be noted that crescent members 30 and 32 are joined together adjacent elastic [6 by means of a fabric strap 52 fastened at its one end portion to crescent member 30 and provided at its other end with a slotted fastener 54 into which a fabric strap 56 fastened at its one end to crescent member 32 and its other end being adapted to be threaded into fastener 54 to adjustably vary the distance between the crescent member. Beneath each arm of the wearer is an adjusting strap 58 attached to the outer edge of cresent member 30 adapted to be fitted into fastener 60 which is attached to belt 10 by means of a short strap 62. These straps fastened to the crescent members are in conjunction with the shoulder straps adjustable to draw the crescent members snugly against the breasts and to secure them against obj ectional vibratory movement.
Referring to Fig. 1 it will be noted that the belt ID is positioned about the body just below the breasts 64 and is supported in this position above the waist line by shoulder straps 3G and intermediate parts. Sewed to the front portion of belt 10 is a pair of spaced apart crescent shaped members 30 and 32 which are adjustable by the parts described above to position them snugly about the breasts of the wearer.
What is claimed is:
l. A brassiere including a belt engageable about the body of the wearer and adapted to be secured at the back, a pair of crescent shaped members secured at their central convex edge portions to said belt respectively at opposite sides of the midpoint of said belt, the points of each of said members extending upwardly and being adapted to be moved toward each other whereby each of said members forms a substantially conical breast-receiving cup, a strap of adjustable length secured to each point of each of said members and forming extensions thereof, a pair of shoulder straps anchored to the back portion of said belt and adapted to pass over the shoulders of the wearer, each of said shoulder straps being secured at its forward end to both of the extension straps associated with one of said crescent shaped members, a strap of adjustable length interconnecting the adjacent portions of said crescent shaped members above said belt, and a strap of adjustable length secured at one end to each of said crescent shaped members at the side thereof distal from the other of said crescent shaped members and at a point spaced above said belt, each of said last named straps extending toward the adjacent end of said belt and secured at its opposite end to said belt.
2. A brassiere including a belt engageable about the body of the wearer and adapted to be secured at the back, a pair of crescent shaped members secured at their central convex edge portions to said belt respectively at opposite sides of the midpoint of said belt, the points of each of said members extending upwardly and being adapted to be moved toward each other whereby each of said members forms a substantially conical breast-receiving cup, a strap of adjustable length secured to each point of each of said members and forming extensions thereof, and a air of shoulder straps of adjustable length anchored to the back portion of said belt and adapted to pass over the shoulders of the wearer, each of said straps being secured at its forward end to both of the extension straps associated with one of said crescent shaped members, a strap of adjustable length interconnecting the adjacent portions of said crescent shaped members above said belt, and a strap of adjustable length secured at one end to each of said crescent shaped members at the side thereof distal from the other of said crescent shaped members and at a point spaced above said belt, each of said last named straps extending toward the adjacent end of said belt and secured at its opposite end to said belt.
3. A brassiere including a belt engageable about the body of the wearer and adapted to be secured at the back, a pair of crescent shaped members secured at their central convex edge portions to said belt respectively at opposite sides of the midpoint of said belt, the points of each of said members extending upwardly and being adapted to be moved toward each other whereby each of said members forms a substantially conical breast-receiving cup, a strap of adjustable length secured to each point of each of said members and forming extensions thereof, a connector ring loosely joining the ends of the extension straps of each crescent shaped member, a pair of shoulder straps of adjustable length anchored to the back portion of said belt and adapted to pass over the shouldersof the wearer, each of said shoulder straps being joined loosely at its forward end to one of said connector rings, all of the straps joining each of said rings being freely pivotable relative to each other, a strap of adjustable length interconnecting the adjacent portions of said crescent shaped members above said belt, and a strap of adjustable length secured at one end to each of said crescent shaped members at the side thereof distal from the other of said crescent shaped members and at a point spaced above said belt, each of said last named straps extending toward the adjacent end of said belt and secured at its opposite end to said belt.
