Description
.Eune 24, 1930. J. D. M GILVRAY IDENTIFICATION HOLDER Filed Aug. 28f 192a Patented June 24, 1930 UNITED STATES JOHN D. MCGILVRAY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IDENTIFICATION HOLDER Application filed August 28, 1928.
This invention relates to an identification holder for use on hospital beds, or other places of that character, where it may be necessary to place an identifying mark on a bed or upon any other permanent support.
In hospitals it is especially advantageous since there always are some people who try to remove something that they have no business to, orchildren who play with the bed taking oft the identification.
lVith the present identification clasp, the clasp is put upon the bed and cannot be removed therefrom without a special instrument which will push the retaining pin out of place, and this is not likely to happen since a special steel pin is required to drive out the retaining pin.
Another object of the present invention is to produce a clamp which will be so smooth that it will not afford any means for the serious collection of dust or dirt.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout the several figures of the drawings and of which there may be modifications.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the clamp as it applies to a bed post,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the clamp on a larger scale than Figure 1, showing a name, date of admission, and other information concerning the patient,
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device looking from the right of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view of a bed post and a plan of the holder attached to the 1 The bed post is indicated at 1, and it has the clamp member 2 applied thereto, said member being in a semi-cylindrical framelike form, with an opening therethrough to display the window 3, and card 4- upon which the writing is placed. The transparent window 3 is usually made of celluloid or some other transparent material of that character which is flexible enough to sit between the clamp and the bed post.
Serial No. 302,527.
At each edge the clamp 2 has a lug as indicated at 5 and 6, said lug having a hole therethrouga through which a pin 7 at each end of the semi-cylindrical band 8 may pass. The pin 7 when released from its position in the clamp as a holding device or hinge is curved or bent so that it can only be put into place by the use of considerable force, and when once in place will hold its position strongly and can only be forced out with a steel pin.
Both the member 8, and the member 2 are smooth as possible so that there will be no danger of clothes getting caught on them, and they sit snugly against the round post of the bed, although it is equally possible to have the clamp fit a square bed post or any other ordinary shape of post, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows, but modifications may be made in carrying out the invention as shown in the drawings and in the above particularly described form thereof, within the purview of the annexed claim:
A clamp of the class described, comprising a semi-cylindrical plate having a central window, a transparent covering for said window, a lug on each side of said plate, a second semi-cylindrical plate having a pair of lugs on each side thereof adapted to engage the lugs on said first plate and a normally bent pin driven into and snugly fitting aligning openings in said lugs.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of July, A. D. 1928.
JOHN D. MCGILVRAY.
