Description
Julie" 3, 1 3 c. G. KING ET AL SHOE BUCKLE F iled Oct. 22, 1929 Patented. June 3, 1953f) onirsn s'r CLIFFORD KING OF BARRINGTON, AND ROBERT C. GIBBS, OF EAST PROVIDENCE,
' Y RHODE ISLAND SHOE BUCKLE Application filed October '22, 1929. Serial No. 401,484.
Our invention relates. to means for secun, ing buckles to shoes and the llke, and ltS object is to provide 8811111316. device of th s character which shall be positive in action and cheap to 1nanu-facture'.j
One embodiment of our invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which s Figure 1 is a plan view showing a-buckle secured to the vamp of a shoe;
Fig. 2 is a view of said buckle as seen from the underside; v
Fig; v3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is an end view on an enlarged scale showing ourimproved fastener before-the lugs are turned over theperforated arm 5 I Fig. 5 is a similar View after said lugs have been turned;
Fig; 6 is a sectiontaken on the line 6+6 of Fig. 4; v Fig.7 is a fragmentary section taken on theline 7 7 of Fig 5; and
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary view of said buckle asseenfrom the underside after the lugs have been bent around the perforated arm.
In the particular drawings selected for more fully disclosing our invention, 10 represents a'buckle, such for example, as an ornamental buckle fora pump having se curedto its under side by soldering or the like a flat strip 11 of flexible material such I ascopper said strip terminating at one end in a flange 12 dis osed substantially at right angles thereto and having forwardly'extending lugs 13, 13 on the respective ends thereof: The other end ofsaid strip terminates in arm arm 14 perforated as shown at 15,
15 and having atthe further endthereof a flange 16 disposed at right anglesthereto said flange ending-in a forwardly extending piece 17 substant ally parallel. to said arm and constructed and arranged to be received in the space between the lugs 13. 13 when said arm is bent over said strip.
The fastener is attached to the shoe vamp by stitching the perforated arm 14 thereto,- or in any other suitable manner, said arm U being bent down at right angles to the strip 11 forthis purpose, and then said strip with the buckle attached is bent over the arm until the flange 16 overlaps the flange 12, and the forwardly extending space between the lugs 13, 13 whereupon said lugs are turned over the flange 16 as shown in Figs. S and 7, thereby securely locking the two ends of the flexible strip, the end piece 17 preventing outward movement of the perforated arm until the lugs are bent into their original forwardly-extending position.
While the device obviously is capable of general application, we have illustrated the same as employed for attaching an ornamental buckle to a pump 18, and in the present instance the arm 14 is illustrated as secured to the pump vamp by the threads 19 passing through the perforations 15.
Having thus described an illustrative embodiment of our invention without however limiting the same thereto, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A buckle having a strip of flexible material secured to the under side thereof, said strip terminating at one end in a flange disposed at right angles thereto and having forwardly extending lugs on the respective ends thereof, the other end 'ofsaid strip terminating in a perforated arm substanti ally equal in length to said strip and having at the further end thereof a flange disposed at right angles-thereto, said flange ending in a forwardly extending piece parellel to said arm and constructed and arranged to be received in the space between said lugs when said arm 'isbent over said strip.
2. Buckle-securing piece 17 is in the means comprising a strip of flexible material terminating at one end in a flange disposed "at right Angles thereto and hax ing "forwardly extending lugs on the respective endsthereof, and ter-' minating atthe other end'in a flange disposed at right angles thereto and terminating in a piece at right angles to said flange,
' said piecebeing receivable in the space between said lugs when said strip is bent upon itself, a portion of said strip being per forated.
In testimonywhereof, We htwe hereunto, subscribedoiii' nainesthis 19thf-day of Oc x when-1929' V CLIFFORD G. KING.
