Description

June 3, 1930.
A. l. EYSTER CIGAR Filed Sepr, 6, 1928 Inventor Patented June 3, 1930 ADEN I. nysrna, or rnitnnnneirrit, enamel-mania CIGAR Application filed September This invention relates broadly to supplies of tobacco and tobacco products and has more particular reference to a permanent mouth piece for a cigar. I
More explicitly stated, the invention has reference to a sleeve-like mouth piece which 7 is permanently attached to the mouth-end of. a blunt cigar, the sleeve being formed of relatively thin cork fastened to the cigar wrapper and provided with a protruding'serrated end providing projecting points adapted to be folded against the blunt end to, form a closure, while smoking, such as permits free passage of smoke and air, while preventing loose particles of tobacco from finding their'way-into the smokers month.
'As is well known when; the filler of the cigar is composed of short pieces and scraps,
and the month end is punctured for smoking, particlesof the filler are gradually drawn into the smokers mouth, thus makingthis type of cigar disagreeable to the user. Also, many smokers have a habit and tendency to bite and chew the end of the cigar, causing the wrapper to unravel, break, cause leakage and an excessive flow juices. V
It follows then that it is the purpose of this invention to provide a sanitary mouth piece of absorbent material, such as cork,
wherein the same is positioned to. prevent unravelling, to minimize chewing and severing of the tobacco, to-reduce the formation of surplus tobacco uices, and to otherwise add tobetter smokingconditions for the user.
The particular construction and arrangement will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings. i
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is aperspective view of a blunt end cigar embodying the mouth piece .constructed in accordance w th the present 1nventlon,"
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view with the mouth piece 1n longitudinal section,
YFigure 3 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the serrated tongues or punctured extensions cooperate in folded re.
lation to form a desirable type of closure,
of undesirable tobacco e, 1923;; Serial In). 304,225;
Referring now to the drawings by refer enc e numerals it willb'e observed that the Body of the' cigar is" generally designated by the reference character 4 and that it has a blunt end'5 forming the mouth end or that porti'onwhich extends into the mouth of the shaker. 1 i 1-. Asisxweu known in this type of cigar it is u'nri'e ce sar yto biteflofi the end, it being only necessarytotakethe cigar 'in' the fingers to split or break that portion of the wrapper which 'ezit'ends' ovei 'th'e blunt end. This thereforeprovides an opening which is suf ficientfor passage of the smoke.
This invention may be used with a blunt end cigaror other type cigar asidesired by discreet smokers. As before intimated the improvement comprises a cork sleeve which is of the approximatelength shown and which fits overthe hlunt end to form a mouth piece and a protector to prevent unravelling of the wrapper of the cigar.
The sleeve is permanently attached when the cigar is manufactured. One end of the sleeve extends beyond the blunt or adjacent end of the cigar and the extended end of the sleeve is serrated to form a plurality of pointed'tongues or extensions 7.
Obviously, upon insertion of the sleeve covered end of the cigar, in ones mouth, the. sleeve will become moistened and the pointed extensions '7 will'have atendency to fold closure as clearly illustrated in Figure 3. This partial closure formed by the tongue for the -butt end of the cigar will permit the free passage of smoke and air therethrough, but will minimize the passage of particles of the filler of the cigar from the -mo'u th piece over "the butt endof'the cigar to form a lengthy description. It is thought the per- 7 son famil ar w th tobacco products will clearly understand the purpose and appearance of the attachment; Consequently a more detailed description is regarded unessential.
Minor changes in material, shape and size may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
As a new article of manufacture, a blunt and cigar and a mouthpiece for permanent attachment to the blunt end butt, said mouthpiece being in the form of a sleeve, said sleeve extending to a point inward of the blunt end to a point outwardly beyond the blunt end, the outwardly extending portion being circumferentially serrated to form bendable tongues, said tongues being folded against the blunt end after it is punctured, said tongues being of less length than the radius of the sleeve, whereby the tongues will terminate short of the axial center of the cigar so as to form a partial closure for the blunt end to permit the free passage of smoke and air therethrough but to minimize the passage of particles of the filler within the body of 5 the cigar from the mouthpiece.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ADEN I. EYSTER.
