Lim, Manila, Philippine Islands, assignor to Philippine Aromatic Cigarettes Mfg. 00., Manila, P lippine Islands, a corporation of the Philippine Islands Application August 7, 1933, Serial No. 684,030 2 Claims. (Cl." 131- 52) The present invention relates to a combined tive lightness, to insure an easy drawing of air cigar-cigarette embodying the make-up of a cigcurrents and smoke, by'the smoker, through the arette, and simulating in appearance the quali-- body of the tobacco roll, and also to afford comties possessed by a high-grade cigar. In carryparatively free burning, together with combus- 5 ing out the invention a core or filler of shredded tion or consumption of the cigar-cigarette at a 6 tobacco leaves is lightly packed to insure an easy comparatively rapidrate. Thus, because of the draw for the smoker of the article, and also to lightpacking, this cigar-cigarette may be conprovide for a freejor comparatively free burning sumed in a shorter period of time than is reof the shredded tobacco, thereby providing for a quired for the usual tightly packed cigarettaand, 0 quickercombustion or consumption of the cigar- Whereas the average smoker, as a rule, discards. 10 cigarette than is usually attained with the tightly his cigarette when only half or one-third conpacked cigarette now in use. Figure 4 is an enlarged, detail view, partly in rear end 3 of the paper case is crimped or corsection at the mouth-end of the cigar-cigarette. ug /ted, as indica n g re and the end of Figure 5 is a front end View of the cigar-cigthe paper tobacco-roll is tapered and reduced in arette. diameter, as shown, to conform the mouth-end or 50 Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view at line rear end of the cigar-cigarette to the usual shape 6-6 of Figure 2. of a cigar. In carrying out the invention a filler or core 1 By crimping the corrugated end of the cigais employed, and made up of shredded tobacco rette, the shreds of tobacco are more densely leaves, and this filler is packed with comparapacked at this tapered portion than throughout the body of the paper covered roll, and this specific packing of the shreds, while not sufficient' to interfere with freedom in drawing through the roll, at the same time provides a support and retaining means for an excess quantity 4 of the shredded filler that is left to project from the rear end of the tapered paper roll, for use in the formation of and for closing the mouth-end of the cigar-cigarette.
The paper from which the tubular case .or tubular roll 2 is fashioned has a texture that is strong, but light, to prevent the air-leaks heretofore referred to, and the, paper is also of a brownish color or tint that blends, with the color of the filler as well as with the color of the outer cigar-wrapper 5 that covers the encased roll of shredded tobacco.
Before the wrapper 5, which is fashioned as a strip from leaf tobacco, is wrapped, spirally on the encased roll, the latter is treated to a coating of vegetable glue, or other suitable adhesive, I by means of which the wrapper is firmly and securely attached to the paper case of the roll,,to form a durable or permanent cover forthe roll.
As seen in Figure 4, the mouth-end of the wrapper 5 is wrapped around the end to form a pocket 6 over 7 the projecting shreds 4 of the tobacco of the paper roll, which pocket completes the tapered mouth-end of the cigar-cigarette.
This mouth-end or tip end is, of course, severed or cut off preparatory to lighting the cigar-cigarette.
The outer end of the cigar-cigarette, as indicated in Figures 3 and 5 is also tapered slightly,
, in order that the cigar-cigarette as completed may present the size, shape, and general appearance of a cigar. The outer wrapper 5 is of course fashioned from a tobacco leaf that has been properly stemmed and seasoned, and different grades, as Sumatra wrappers may be employed for the highest grade, Georgia wrappers for the next best grade, and other well known grades may be employed for cigar-cigarettes of inferior quality and price.
As thus manufactured the cigar-cigarette provides the smoker with a smoking tobacco-roll having some of the characteristics of both a cigar and a cigarette, and while possessing the appearance of a cigar, also provides a smoke of shredded tobacco having certain characteristics of the fibers employed in a cigarette. A little cigar-cigarettethe size of the standard cigarette burns, quicker than a cigarette, while a cigarcigarette having the size of a standard cigar also burns more rapidly and may be consumed to the satisfaction of the smoker in less time than required for the consumption of a cigar.
Having thus fully described the-invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:-
1. An article of manufacture comprising a paper casing and a filler of shredded tobacco leaves, an excess portionof said filler projecting beyond the end of the casing, and a spirally wound wrapper of tobacco-leaf covering said casing, the end of said wrapper forming a closed pocket over said projecting portion of filler.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a paper casing and a filler of shredded tobacco leaves, said casing having a reduced crimped end and the filler having an excess portion projecting outside said reduced end, a spirally wound wrapper of tobacco-leaf covering said casing, and an adhesive between said casingand wrapper, the 'end of said wrapper forming a closed pocket over said projecting portion.
