STOCKING-PROTECTING FOOTWEAR Application filed April 4,
i This invention relates generally to feminine clothing, and has more particular reference to novel elastic stockings for use as stocking protecting devices. The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned of simple durable construction, desirable and eflicient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The elastic protecting stockings are made from thin rubber provided with pretty ornamental designs on the outer sides. In addition to protecting ones stockings, these protectors also serve the purpose of keeping the wearers legs Warm and dry. They readily assume the shape of the wearers legs, looking stylish. The ornamental designs on the outer sides may be brilliantly colored. A pair of protectors can easily be rolled up into a package no larger than a cigarette case and thus carried conveniently in a ladys bag, so as to be handy for use 1n the event the weather changes for sudden rains or snow. At the upper ends the protectors are provided with bands to permit rolling downwards of the upper material to vary the heights of wearing. The lower ends are designed to engage the foot beneath a wearers shoe. A holding strap is arranged adjustably in regards to positions so as to be movable toengage beneath the arch of a wearers foot.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, "forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a fragmentary side view of a wearers leg with a stocking protector engaged thereon, and a shoe on the foot of said leg.
Fi 2 is a similar view, but showing a modified orm of protector constructed according to the same invention.
Fig. 3 is a side view of a protector withthe top thereof partially turned inside-out and constructed according to the same invention.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, but show- 1928. Serial No. 267,217.
ing another form of protector constructed according to the same invention.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view, taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view, taken 65 on the line 66 of Fig. 4.
. The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a wearers leg provided with a stocking protector 11 and a shoe 12.
The protector 11 consists of a knee portion 13, a calf portion 14 and a foot portion 15. A plurality of loop stitches 16 engage the knee portion 13 and a garter 17 is secured in place by these stitches. A band 18 is attached to the very top of the knee portion, and serves as a starter for rolling the protector downwards on the leg. Ornamental designs 19, 19 and 19 are formed on the outside of the protector 11. The foot portion 15 consists of a fragmentary'heel covering portion 20, and an arch strap 25. The protector 11 is lined on the inside with a lining of camels hair 22.
The foot portion 15 has a pair of strings 23 extended along opposite edges, and held against displacement at their ends 24 so that the strings are free along their lengths. The arch strap member 25 has its ends slidably connected with the strings'so as to be movable along the lengths of the strin s. A plurality of strings 26 are attached to 51c foot portion 15 along the length of the strings 23. Other strings 27 are attached to the arch strap 25. In operation, the arch straps 25 are moved along the strings 23 to a position to best accommodate a wearers arch. Then the strings 27 of the arch straps are tied to the nearest strings 26 of the foot member 15 so as to hold the arch member as positioned.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the sco e of the invention as defined in the appen ed claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. An elastic stocking protector comprising a protector member having a foot portion, a pair of strings extended along posite edges of the foot portion, and attadhed at their ends to the foot ortion, an arch strap 5 having its ends-slida 1y connected to the said strings so as to be movable along the lengths of thestrings, a plurality of strings attached to the foot portion along the lengths of the first mentioned strings, and other strings attached to the arch strap, and tied to the nearest strings of the second mentioned strings so as to hold the arch member as positioned along the first mentioned strings.
2. An elastic stocking protector, comprising a protector member having a foot portion, an arch strap slidably mounted at 1ts ends along the edges of the foot portion, a plurality of strings attached on the foot portion, and other strings attached on the arch strap, and tied to the nearest strings on the said foot portion so as to hold the arch member as positioned along the edges of the foot portion. In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature. ARISTEDE A. THEODOROPULOS.
