This invention relates to a sanitary appliance for preventing the spread of infection such as athletes foot and the like between the toes.

A primary object of the invention is to pro vide a simple and practical device which is easy to apply and comfortably worn, while at the same time protecting the digits of the foot from contact and serving to absorb moisture which propagates germ infection.

Other objects of the invention may appear as the description proceeds.

A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a preferred form of the invention.

Figure 2 is a view illustrating the application of the invention.

Similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.

The invention includes in its organization a body or carrier strip 1 of suitable length and width and preferably made of a soft absorbent fabric and a protector'strip 2.

The protector strip 2 is also preferably made of suitable length and width from a strip of absorbent fabric and has its medial portion secured, as by the stitching 3, to the medial portion of the carrier strip 1. By thus securing the protector strip to the body or carrier strip the ends 4 of the former are left free thereby to embrace the bottom and sides of the middle digit of the foot as shown in Figure 2. Since the ends of the body 5 are also free, they may be turned upwardly between the first and fourth digits, thereby effectively shielding and protecting all contacting surfaces of the toes.

The device may be simply and easily applied by placing the toes over the body orcarrier strip having the protector strip secured thereto and then lifting the ends 44 and 55 into position by spreading the toes apart. The device when applied permits of the free movement of the digits of the foot and at the same time has a self-locking feature so that it will not be displaced by the movement of the foot in motion, and will not Serial No. 569,781.

interfere with hosiery or produce bunches or folds of material which will cause discomfort when the foot is encased by the shoe.

lVithout further description, it is thought that the features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art/and it will of course be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from 50 the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. Atoe protecting pad comprising a carrier strip of absorbent fabric having free 0:, end portions, and a protector strip also having free end ortions, said carrier strip and protector str p being secured together at their medial portion only thereby to provide shields for the inner contacting surfaces 7 of all of the digits of the foot.

2. A toe protecting pad comprising a carrier strip of absorbent material having free end portions, and a single protector strip secured at its medial portion to the medial part of the carrier strip wherebythe ends thereof are free to embrace the middle digit of the foot and thus protect the second and third digits from contact, and the free ends of the carrier strip being adapted to be m- 0 terposed between the adjacent sides of the first and second digits and fourth and fifth digits of the foot. 3. A toe protecting pad ad ustable as to size comprising a carrier strip and an mters5 mediate protector strip both o1ned together at their medial portions whereby the ends of the carrier strip and the protectlng strip both have free ends for insertion between the digits of the foot.
