Dec. 17, 1929. LEVY 1,740,026
GARMENT SUPPORTER V Filed'oct. 11, 1928 Inventar Fla/"Ja n levy,
Attornqy Patented Dec. 17, .1929
UNITED STATES FLOR/IAN LEVY, or LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA GARMENT SUPPORTER Application filed October 11, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in means for supportmg garments and the same pertains more particularly to a novel waist band or waist supported apparel.
This novel structure is particularly suitable for pajamas, drawers, skirts, and the like.
The main object of the invention is to provide means whereby the waist portion of waist supported garments may be adjusted to accommodate different sized waists.
Another object resides in a novel waist band or waist supported garment provided with means whereby the same can be readily 5 adjusted to fit the waist of difierent sized persons, and which also permits a merchant selling garments of this type, to carry in stock a less number of sizes than would be feasible, if the garments were not equipped with the present novel band.
After reading the following specification and claim, other important objects of the invention will become apparent.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a fragmentary perspective view of the waist portion of a garment equipped with the novel waist band.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the adjusting means between the ends of the 3 split waist band, and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thru this fragmentary portion of the waist band.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, the garment A of the waist supported type, is shown in Fig.
1, equippedwith the novel waist band structure.
This structure includes a pair of straps 1 and 2 respectively. The attaching edge of the garment is provided with a cut-out portion 3, while the strap sections 1 and 2 respectively, are secured to the edge portion of the garment.
One end of one of the strap sections is formed with a button hole 4, while the adjacent end of the complementary strap is provided with a button 5 engageable thru said button hole. The opposite ends of the strap sections are adjacent the cut out portion 3. The section 1 has secured thereto at one Serial No. 311,880.
end thereof an elongated loop member 6 while the adjacent end of the complementary section 2 is trained through a rectangular frame 7, which is provided with a longitudinally extending connecting bar 8. This end ortion of the section 2 is then trained through the loop member 6 and then backwardly to the rectangular frame 7 where the same is secured to the connecting bar 8.
In this manner, the end portions of the. sections are adjustably connected together. A sleeve of fabric, designated by numeral 9 is secured to the edge of the garment A within the cut out portion 3 for the purpose of concealing the adjustable means shown in Figs. 2 and 3 respectively, and also to prevent the contact of the frame 7 and loop 6, from contact with the body of the person wearing the garment.
A loop 10 may also be connected to the waist portion of the garment, through which the strap section 2 may extend.
Obviously by drawing the section 2 longitudinally through the frame member 7, thus causing the said frame member 7 and loop 6 to be drawn toward one another, the diameter of the waist band may be increased to accommodate the size of the waist of the wearer of the garment. The sections 1 and 2 respectively, may be of elastic material if so desired, but this is not to be considered a limitation, for any kind of material may be used without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, or the scope of the appended claim.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is a In a waist supported garment of the character described, a waist band secured to the garment throughout a major part of its length, said waist band comprising a pair of sections each adapted to be secured to the edge of the waist portion of the garment to extend along the edge of the garment, a button carried by one end of one of said waist band sections,a but-ton hole formed in the adjacent end of the other section of the waist band, a loop member connecting the opposite ends of the waist band sections, and said waist portion of the garment adjacent said last 10 mentioned ends of the waistband sections being provided with a, cut out portion, adjusting means for the waist band sections, and a sleeve of fabric secured to the waist portion of the garment at its out out portion, and said sleeve being adapted to receive the said last mentioned ends of the band sections to completely conceal the looped connection between said ends of the sections.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FLORIAN LEVY.
