Description

May 10, 192 7. 1,628,502 F. A. LETZAU noon HOLDER Filed Jan. 10. 1923 fi aq m Patented May 10, 1927.
UNITED STATES FRED A. LE'IZAU, or LANSING, MICHIGAN.
DOOR HOLDER.
Application filed January 10, 1923. Serial No. 611,794.
This invention relates to a holder for doors, and an object of the invention is to provide a spring controlled slidable holding bolt which is adapted to hold a door open.
More specifically the invention comprises a spring controlled slidable bolt for attachment to garage doors for holding the doors open, against the action of the wind. so as to permit the driver of a vehicle to drive into the garage without danger of the doors blowing shut or closing.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein Fig. l is a perspective view of the improved holder.
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the holder.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view partly in section of a modified form of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved door holder comprises a bolt 1 which is slidably supported from a door or other swingable or movable object 2 by means of suitable brackets 23. The bolt 1 preferably has its lower end 4 pointed for biting into the ground or other soft surface, to hold the door or swingable object open. The upper end of the bolt is bent transversely providing a horizontal portion 5 which is adapted to be engaged in the lower curved end 6 of a saddle 7. terminal of the bolt 1 is bent transversely to the transversely bent portion 5 providing a handle 8 by means of which the trans verse portion 5 may be conveniently lifted out of the saddle 6 to permitthe bolt to be The upper the saddle 6 which permits the spring 9 to contract or reflex forcing the bolt 1 downwardly into the ground or surface adjacent the door for holding it in open position.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings a sleeve 10 is shown mounted upon the lower end of the bolt 1 and attached thereto by means of a split key or analogous device 11. A resilient pad or cushion 12, preferably of rubber is carried by the lower end of the sleeve 10 and is adapted to frictionally grip a smooth hard surface such as a cement runway, floor, or a wooden runway or floor, for holding the door 2 open.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is In combination with a retaining member including spaced guide brackets, a rod slidably mounted within said. brackets, a penetrating point on one end of said rod, the other end ofsaid rod bent transversely to the body portion to provide a substantially horizontal portion, a saddle attached to the door or gate in which the portion which is horizontal, rests when in an operative position, the extreme end of the rod beyond the horizontal portion being bent at right angles to said horizontal portion to form ahandle, and a coil spring having one end secured to the door or gate adjacent the pointed end of the
