Description

March 8, H-CULP BOTTLE RECEPTACLJE Filed Sept. 21, 1925 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 8, 1927.
HERBERT GULF, OF WILLOUGHBY, OHIO.
BOTTLE BECEPTACLE.
Application filed September 21, 1925. Serial No. 57,692.
This invention relates to improvements in milk bottle receptacles and has for one of its objects to provide an improved lockable receptacle in which milk bottles can be placed and snap locked.
A further object of the device is to pro vide a receptacle in which empty'bottles may be placed in such manner as to hold the cover partly open and unlocked, so that the empty bottles can be removed therefrom.
A further object is to provide such a receptacle in which bottles of various sizes may be placed.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device with two full quart bottles locked therein;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same;
Figure 3 is a side elevation showing an empty quart bottle suspended by its hanger and holding the cover partly open;
Figure 4: is a view similar to Figure 3,
but with an empty pint bottle therein; and.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of an attachment used with pint bottles.
The receptacle consists of a box 1 having an open front and a rear wall 3 which has holes 4- for fastening the same to a wall or post. The cover 5 is adapted to close the front of the box, being hinged at 6 to the top 7, although the hinges may be located at the side or bottom of the cover. The cover has a snap lock 8 engageable with a keeper 9. fastened to the lower edge of the box. On the inside of cover 5 are cleats or projections 10 so located as to strikethe side of a bottle when the latter is suspended by one of the hangers 11 which are attached to the top of the box and are U-shaped with projecting lingers to engage under the rim of the bottle.
The boxes may be made in differel'it sizes to accon'miodatedifferent numbers of bottles. In use, one or more full bottles may be set in the box. on the bottom thereof, and the cover may then be closed snap locking, the cleats 10 passing above the shoulder of the bottle, as shown in Figure 2. When an empty bottle is placed in the box it is hung on hanger 11 in which position the cleat 10 will stop against the body of the bottle while the cover is in open position, as shown in Figure 3, and consequently the cover cannot become locked, but may be lifted by the milkman to remove the empty bottles. \Vhen the milkman delivers the full bottles he closes the cover which snap locks and then can only be opened by the householder with a key.
For use of pint bottles, as indicated in V Figure l, a spacing attachment 15 is hung on the back of the box. from the hook 16, and when a pint bottle is hung on hangers 11 this attachment will cause the bottle to stand forward so that'the cleat 10 will stop against the same and hold the cover open, as shown in Figure i.
The invention provides a cheap and convenient device in which full bottles may be locked. and from which empty bottles can quickly and easily be removed.
I claim:
1. A bottle receptacle comprising a box having a door at the front and a hanger in the top of the box, the door being hinged at its upper end to the top of the box and pro- 'vided with a latch engageable when the bottle stands on the bottom of the box, the hanger being adapted to hold the bottle at such an elevation above the bottom of the box that the door will contact with the side of the bottle when in open position to preent closure of the doo 2. The receptacle as set forth in claim 1. the door beingg provided on its inner side with a projection adapted to stop against the bottle when the latter is suspended by the hanger.
3. A receptacle as set for h in claim 1, and a removable spacer adapted to be supported against the back of the box to hold the small-sized bottles in forward position so that the door will stop against the same when suspended by the hanger.
l. A bottle receptacle comprising a box having a door at the front hinged at its upper end to the top of the box and a. lock snap engageable when the door is closed, a forked hanger depending from the top of the box under the door hinge and adapted to engage under the rim of the bottle to suspend the same above the bottom of the box in position to be struck by the door and prevent the closure thereof.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
