Application filed October 19, 1926. Serial No. 1%,591.
This invention relates to improvements in memory checking devices commonly called kitchen reminders, and is adapted to provide means whereby the housewife may visibly record and be reminded of necessity for replenishing kitchen supplies; the device being adapted in principle, however, for use in any other connection wherein the user desires to record or indicate for attention any other character of information.
The novel reminder, which is the subject of this invention, comprises a tablet upon whieh may be listed e. the names of articles. supplies ofwhich are from time to time in need of replenishment; said tablet being provided with a plurality of incident-- ing devices corresponding in number to and cooperating with the various items of the li t of articles inscribed or posted on the tablet, said indicating devices being selectively movable to either indicating r nonindicating position. It is the object of this invention to provide such tablet body with a novel means for pivotally mounting the in dicating devices in connection therewith, and at the same time to provide stops for limit ing; the movements of said indicating devices so that the same are spaced outwardly from the surface of the tablet body. espeei v when in indicating position, whereby their free ends are easily and quickly accessible to and engageable by the users fingers for manipulation.
The invention has for a further object to provide reminder device of the character above mentioned which in reduced to a minimum number of parts, which parts may be easily and quickly assembled together with but a minimum expenditure of time and labor, thus providing a comparatively inexpensive device, and yet one of very serviceable and durable character.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of the novel reminder device made according to and em bodyingr the principles of this invention; Figure 2 is an edge elevation or side view of the same; Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view drawn on an enlarged scale. and taken on line 3-3 in Figure 1; Figure 4 is a sectional view. taken on line ll in Figure 3; Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of a combined bearing and movement limiting stop means for pivotally mounting the indicating devices in operative relation to the tablet body; and Figure 6 is a perspective view of an indicating device detached from the tablet body.
Similar char eters of reference are employcd in all of the hereinabove described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the drawings, the reference character 1 indicates a tablet body mate of sheet metal and rovided with a peripheral flange 2, whereby said tablet body is stiffened against distortion. Suitably inscribed upon the face of said tablet body are lists of the names of articles subject to checlc ing or indication, said lists preferably comprising a column of items adjacent to the left hand margin of the tablet body and a similar column of items adjacent to the right hand margin thereof. Arranged in pivoted connection with the tablet body, along the vertical marginal portions thereof to correspond to the items of the respective columns, are indicating devices capable of being); moved from a normal non-indicating or noncheekin r position to an indicating or checlc inn position, and vice versa.
Each indicating device comprises a pointer member 3, preferably in the form of an arrow-head; said pointer member having at its rearward end a shanlnportion l provided with oppositely and laterally projecting journal tongues 5 extending outwardly from its respective sides. Preferably each pointer-member 3 is treated on one face with a color corresponding to the color of the tablet body 1; the pointer member being so mounted that the so colored faces are exposed when the same occupy non-indicatingor non-checking positions. The opposite face of each. pointer member is treated with a color adapted to offer a substantial contrast to the color of the tablet body 1: the latter faces being; exposed when the pointer members are turned to occupy operative indicating or checking positions.
The means for operatively conneetinr: the pointer members with the tablet body is comprised in the followin structure. Struck up out of the metallic material of the tablet body 1, in proper locations correspending to the desired positions of the pointer members. and so to form an integral part of the tablet body, are pairs of vertically spaced apart lugs 6. integrally connected with the free ends of said lugs 6, intermediate the sides thereof, are bearing ears 7 having openings 7 to receive the journal tongues 5 of said pointer members, thereby forming pivotal bearings for the latter. Said ears 7 are of reduced *idth relative to the width of the lugs 6 from which they extend, so that there are provided, beyond the uncturcs of the former with the latter, outer sto} shoulders 8 and inner stop shoulders 9 which serve to limit the movement of said po nter members 3, whereby, when the same occupy either non-indicating; or indicating positions, the free ends of the same are outwardly spaced from the underlying surface of the tablet body 1, and are therefore held easily accessible by the finger of the user, so that they may be conveniently and quickly en-- gaged and manipulated when it is desired to turn the same from one position to another.
As indicated in Figure l of the drawings, the pointer members 3 are selectively manipulatable to move the same to checking or indicating positions relative to the items of the lists with which they are associated; and when moved to indicating positions they serve as a very prominent visible checlr marh against the items of such lists to which attention is to be called, and in relation to which a reminder is desired.
It will be apparent from the above description that the novel arrangement for pivotally suporting the indicating pointer mem hers is very simple, being formed integrally with and from the material of the tablet body 1, thus reducing the number of parts required and facilitating the operations o assembling the parts in making up the com plete device.
The tablet body may be provided with one or more perforations 10 for suspending the same from a suitable support.
It will also be apparent that the device as a Whole is simple and compact, having a groups of itemized information, pivoted pointer members adjacent to and correspond ing to the respective items of information, said pointer members being selectively movable to checking or non-checking relation to said items, and means integrally formed out of the body of said plate for pivotally mounting; said pointer members, said means including stop-shoulders engageable by said pointer memb rs to limit their movements and hold the same siaced outwardly from the underlying surface of said plate.
2. A memory cl eclring device, comprising a metallic plate irovided on its face with i emized information, pivoted pointer members correspona'ling to the items of informaand movable into checking or nonchecking; relation thereto, each pointer member having at its rearward end a shank provided with oppositel and lateral projecti jeurnal tongues, and means integrally fo med out of the body of said plate for pivotally mounting said pointer members, said means comprising pairs of outwardly struck lug perforate ears integral with and extendin from the ends of said lugs to receive the journal tong es of said pointer members, n'l said ears being of less width than said i whereby stop-shoulders are formed by the outlying; extremities of said lugs adapted to engage said pointer members and hold the same spaced outwardly from the und erlying surface of said plate.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of October, 1926.
