G. C. DEANE COMBINED HOLDER AND CONTAINER Filed Feb. 4, 1926 WITNESSES IN ENTOR u' Kiwi/jeune A'ITORN EYS rPatented Nov. 9, 1926.

COMBINED HOLDER AND CONTAINER.
. Application led February 4, 1926. Serial No. 86,071).
This invention relates to containers and has especial reference to a combined container and holder.
The present invention contemplates a combined container or box and a holder for holding or supporting an adhesive plaster or other preferred material in a dust-proof and moisture-proof condition as a new article of manufacture. The holder of the article is of novel construction in that the same will include a hollow core attached to a flanged disk which constitutes a closure, the core beingr closed or sealed at the end remote from the disk, and the flanged disk combined with a receptacle or box for com letely enclosing material held or supported y the core of the holder.
Hitherto material such as adhesive plaster is wrapped on spools, a number of which are put into individual containers or cartons, and it is one of the objects of the present invention to produce al combined holder in the nature of a spool and a receptacle or box which will result in the saving of time and expense in the production of a finished article; an article which will serve adequatel for enclosin among otherthings, a vendSi able commo ity such as an adhesive plaster in a dust-proof and moisture-proof condition; and an article which supports or holds a material such as adhesive plaster conveniently accessible.
'Another object of the invention is to provide a novel form of holder which is of simplified construction capable of being combined with a receptacle or box for keeping certain goods conveniently accessible completely enclosed.
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will -appear when the following specificatlon is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the parts of the combined container and holder separated.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view through the combined container and holder associated with each other.
Referring now more particularly to the views of the drawing, it will be apparent that, the article of the present invention comprises a holder 10 and a receptacle or box 11. The holder 10 comprises a core 12 and a core supporting member 13 in the nature of a disk having a marginal ilange 14. The core 12 in the present instance is made of one piece of sheet metal pieced together by means of a seam in the usual way which makes a core of hollow construction. One end of the hollow core is closed by a closure member 15 made of a piece of sheet metal pressed to produce a dished construction having the edge of its flange outturned and Dressed agalnst the wall of the core 12 as at 16 to securely hold the member 13 in place. The member 13 is stamped, bent and formed from asingle iece of sheet metal to provide the same wit an opening Y17, the Hange 14 heretofore mentioned and a bead 18. The opening 17 is preferably centrally located in the main portion of the member 13 and is adapted to receive one end of the core 12 which is bent and re-bent and pressed tightly in clamping engagement with the edge of the main portion of the member 13 as at 19 to securely connect and hold the core 12 in place. It is to be noted that the core 12 is disposed at the unflanged side of the member 13, and that the end of the core 12 having the closure member 15 is remote from said portion. The core 12 serves as a supporting means on which adhesive plaster, or other material is placed or wound and which is indicated by the dot and dash lines in Fig. 2. It is also to be noted that the holder while in the nature of a spool is unlike an ordinary spool in that it only has one disk. The adhesive plaster or other material will be held by the holder 10 externally thereof and will therefore be conveniently accessible.
In order to completely enclose the adhesive plaster or other material there is provided the receptacle or box 11 hereinbefore mentioned.V The said receptacle or box 11 may be made in any preferred manner, and in the present `instance is made of material similar to that from which'the holder is made, namely, sheet metal. The said receptacle or box 11 as constructed consists of a side wall 2O and an end wall 21. The
receptacle or box 11 is adapted to receivev the core 12 and the material supported thereby and the open end of the container .or box is adapted to fit in frictional contacbe noted that the bead 18 serves as a stop to limit the insertion of the holder into the receptacle or box 11, and' that these elements are separably associated. When the holder and the receptacle or box 11- are associated with each other thel member 13 serves as a closurek or cover for the receptacle or box 11, and that the member 15 prevents any air or dust from entering the compartment defined by the several portions of the holder 10 and the receptacle or box 11.
It is to be understood that the cross sectional shapes respectively of the parts of the holder 10 and the receptacle or box 11 Vmay be of any shapc, and in the present instance is referably circular. rom the foregoing it will be apparent that there has been described a combined container and holder to constitute a new article of manufacture of dual character in that the same 'will not only hold a material such as adhesive plaster, but will also serve to maintain such material in proper condition due to the fact that it will be sealed up without requiring an extra container or box.V
It is to be understood that the present invention is not to be restricted to the precise construction. and relative arrangement of the parts but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to Whenever it is deemed necessary or desirable.
I claim:
1. A new article of manufacture comprising a holder, and abox for the holder, said holder comprising a hollow core, an annular member secured to one end of said ege, the end of said core remote from said annular member closed by a member secured to the wall of said core, said box being open at oneend and closed at the opposite end, the open end of the box fitting about said vannular member in frictional contact therewith, with the core disposed within the space deined by the Walls of the box and said annular member.
2. A new article of manufacture'comprising` a holder, and a box for the holder, said holder comprising a hollow core, an annular memberV secured to one end of said core, said annular member having a side flange and a stop bead on said ange, the end of said core remote from said annular member closed by a member secured to the wall of said core, said box being open at one end and closed at the opposite end, the open end of the box tting about said annular member in frictional contact with said flange, with the Icore disposed within the space defined by the Walls of the box and said annular member, and said stop bead limiting the inward movement of the holder with respect to the box.
