TRUCK OR TRANSORTING DEVICE.
.Application filed February 27, 1926. Serial No. 91,093.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in trucks or transporting devices and has particular reference to such trucks as are adaptedv for use in transporting type forms from one table or support to another.
' One object of the present invention is to provide simple and eliicient `means whereby the receiving or supporting member of the devices may readily be raised or lowered and maintained in a position substantially parallel with the plane of the top of the frame or body of the truck.
`With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set lforth and pointed out in the claims.
ln .the accompanying drawings;
Figure l is aview in elevation of a truck or carrier illustrating an embodiment `of my invention, and showing the vertically movable table or platform in its raised position;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view (partly broken away) .showing positions assumed by the part-s when the table 'orl platform is in lowered position;
Figure 3 is a plan view, the table or platform being removed;
Figures 4 and 5 are enlarged views showing certain details, and
Figure 6 is a view of a modification.
The frame or body of the truck may comprise upper and lower side bars l, 2, end bars 3, 3 and uprights 4. rlhe side and end bars l-3 may be united by permanent corner couplings 5, and with these couplings, the legs or upright 4 are connected; said legs or uprights being also connect-ed with the lower side bars 2, through the medium of couplings 6. Suitable castors 'l' may be provided at the lower ends of the legs or uprights 4. s
Y In` order to insure proper operation of the levers to effect the even vertical movements of the table or platform 16, l provide link connections between the two bail levers l0, 10. In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figures l to 4 inclusive,
the adjacent arms of the respective levers l()k (near each side of the truck) are connected by pivoted links 23, 24, these links being pivotally connected at their outer ends with arms of the respective levers l0, and mounted at their inner ends on a bolt`25. The boss 26 on the link 23 is freely mounted on the bolt, but the boss 2'? on the link 24 may be interiorly threaded to engage a threaded portion 28 on the bolt. A nut 29 is providedV on one end 4of the boltV 25v and, near the other end of said bolt, a collar or head 30 maybelocated to provide an abutment for the boss 26, while a spacer "3l may be disposed between-the two bosses 26 and 27'. Each bolt 25 extends at one end beyond the collar or head 30, and has mounted thereon, a roller 32. The rollers 32 on the respective bolts 25 ride in vertical guideways provided by channel irons 33, each secured at its upper end 'to an upper side bar l of the frame and at its lower end to a lower side bar 2 of the frame, and said vertical guideways 0r channel irons are located midway between the ends of the frame. Each bolt 25 may be formed at the end on which the roller is mounted, to receive a screw-driver or other tool, and the adjacent channel iron 33 may be provided with an opening 33y to acilitate the application of the tool to the olt.
In the embodimentof the invention shown in Figure 6, a single link 34: is employed between each pair of adjacent arms of the respective levers. 'Io facilitate the attachment` of such link, brackets 85., 85 are secured to adjacent` arms of respective levers l0 and provided with lugs .36 to which respective ends of the link 34 are connected.
It is desirable that means be provided to restrain the descent of the table or platform 16, and for this purpose, braking devices may be employed, and in the drawings is shown one embodiment of such braking devices. Brake wheels 3.7 are secured (preterably by set screws 37a) to the respective shafts 9 and a brake band 38 extends from one of these brake wheels to the other. The end port-ions of the brakeV band embrace the respective brake wheels, and to the eXtremities of said band, rods 39 are connected and pass through holes in the band, said rods being threaded to receive nuts 4,0, between which latterand the band, springs 4l are located. i
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
l. In a transportingdevice of the character described, the combination with a truck frame and a vertically movable table, oi levers mounted in said iframe, lever mem-` bers ulcrumed coincidently with said levers and cooperable with said levers and with the table to effect raising or lowering of the latter, and means to adjust the relation of said lever members relatively to the levers and the table.
2. In a transporting device of the character described, the combination with atruck frame and a vertically movable table, of two lever structures supported by the truck frame and cooper-able with the table to effect raising and lowering of the same, and floating pivoted lin-k devices connecting the two lever structures with each other midway the ends thereof. l
3. In a transporting device of the character described, the combination with a truck frame and a vertically movable table, of two lever structures supported by the truck frame and cooperable with the tabl-e to effect raising and lowering or the same, pivoted link' devices connecting the two lever structures with each other, rollers carried by said link devices, and vertical guides for said rollers secured to the truck frame.
4. In transporting devices of the character described, the combination with a truck frame and a vertically movable table, oit two bail levers supported by said iframe, operative connections between said levers and the table, pairs of pivotally connected links pivotally connected with arms of the respective bail levers, a roller connected with each pair of 'pivoted links in line with the pivotal connection between the links, and vertical guides secured to the frame for the rollers.
5. In a transporting device of the character described, the combination with a truck trame and a vertically movable table, of two bail levers supported by said iframe, lever members adjacent the arms of the bail levers and having toes projecting under the arms of the bail levers, a set screw passing through each toe and cooperable with the adjacent bail lever arm, said lever members also having lingers cooperable with the table, and link connections between the respective bail levers.
6. In a transporting device of the character described, the combination with a truck frame and a vertically movable table, of two lever structures, lugs on the und-er side of the table, removable plates at the lower ends of said lugs and carried thereby and positioned for cooperative relation with said lever structures, and floating link devices connecting the two lever structures between the ends thereof.
7. In a transporting device of the character described, the combination with a truck frameand a vertically movable table, of two bail levers supported by the truck frame, connections between said levers and the table, two pairs of links, pivotal connections between the outer axes ci" the links of each pair and arms of the respective bai levers, a bolt connecting the inner ends of the links oit' each pair, rollers carried by the respective bolts, and vertical guides secured to the truck frame and receiving said rollers.
In testimony whereof, I have Signed this specication.
GEORGE ELLIS SMQUSE.
