Description

SHEET MATERIAL FOR COVERING, LINING, 0R CLOSING VILLHERS CONSTRUCTIONS OF ALL KINDS Flled Sept 30 1924 Patented Get.` 12, 1926.
UNITED EDWARD CECIL VILLIERS, OJE ASCOT, ENGLAND.
SHEET MATERIAL FOR COVERING, IIINING, R CLOSING CONSTRUCTIONS 0F ALI@ KINDS.
p Application :tiled September 30, 1924, Serial No. 740,879, and in Great Britain October 4, 1923.
This invention relates to improvements in sheet material for covering, lining, or closing constructions of all kinds.
Hitherto fabrics for these purposes have either been lacking in flexibility, mechanical strength, endurance, or impenetrability.
The single ligure of the accompanying drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
According to myl present invention the above-described defects are obviated by making up amaterial which consists of gauze 2 fwovenfron twisted steel wire strand upon which rubber sheets e and .6 are pressed on iu both sides, making a material which is eX- ceedingly strong, light, flexible and rustproof and exceedingly difficult to tear, or to pierce except with a needle oint. The sheet 4 is shown partlyseparate for clearness.
'Ilie flexibility and strength is obtained by using 'a number of small wires in each strand and with wire drawn from high tensile steel,
vtensile steel wires twisted together.
the resulting material being exceedingly flexible in all directions, strong, rust-proof, impenetrable, very suitable for naval construction of all kinds, for splinter screens, bomb proof awnings, leak Stoppers or collision mats and a material which does not take a permanent kink on being bent.
I. claim l 1. An article of the class described comprising a exible sheet united with a mesh of strands, each strand comprising a plurality of metal wires twisted together.
2. An article of the class describedcomprising two adherent sheets of rubber, and a mesh of strands disposed between the sheets and united together with the sheets, each strand comprising a plurality of high- 40 .In witness whereof I have signed this specification.
EDWARD CECIL VILLIERS.
