922,726. Laminates; coated fabrics; woven fabrics. MOHASCO INDUSTRIES Inc. July 27, 1961 [Aug. 11, 1960; June 28, 1961], No. 27280/61. Classes 74 (27) and 140. A sound-insulating curtain foldable parallel to its length or breadth comprises a woven or other fabric having embodied or attached spaced metallic wires or similar members in the direction of folding only and a flexible airimpervious layer or coating of plastic material, The wires &c. may be of lead, copper, iron or steel, and the plastic material may be neoprene, a vinyl or acrylic resin or the material sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Mylar." The fabric threads may be of cotton, wool, linen or silk, or of synthetic or man-made material such as nylon or rayon, but in view of the weight of the wires &c. to be supported by the fabric, are preferably resistant to elongation. The wires &c. preferably extend vertically in the curtains and are preferably turned over at their upper ends to prevent displacement. As shown, Fig. 2, the fabric comprises wefts 21, warps 22, and lead wires 23 in the warp direction, some of which are laid beside the warps 22 and prevent them from bending into sinuous form. The fabric is loosely woven, with a plain weave or a weave such as that shown, and is coated on one side with a layer 20 of plastic material. In a modification two layers of fabric are each coated with material such as neoprene and pressed together, or are bonded together with an intermediate layer of plastics material. The metal wires may be provided with a loose covering of braided ribbon. The fabric may comprise a fibrous bat incorporating wires which are secured by the bonding adhesive for the bat.
