ALBERT K. SMITH, JR., OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO CHIPRON STAMP COMPANY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA.
STAMP MOUNTING AND LABEL.
Application filed June 7,
This invention relates to a means for labeling mounts for rubber stamps and l ke articles. It is a primary object of this invention to provide a combinationof a mount and an insertable label. It is desirable to have mounts so arranged that selected labels of standard dimensions and structure may be inserted and attached. Another object of this invention is to provide a mount of the character described which does not require mutilation of the mount, does not detract from its appearance or interfere with its durability or convenience of manipulation. A further object of this invention is to provide a transparent envelope or holder of durable material for containing interchangeable labels, whereby to protect the label against being marred and to increase the eflicient life thereof. A still further object of this invention is to provide a mount and label which is economical to manufacture and easy to assemble.
These objects together with other objects and corresponding accomplishments are obtained by means of the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a common type of handle mount; Fig. 2 is a section partly in elevation as seen upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an elevation of another type of mount; and Fig. 4 is a section as seen upon the line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, a type of mount, in current use is disclosed. Such mounts are commonly made of wood and comprise a body or mount strip 5 to the lower face of which the rubber type 6 is cemented. A bore is provided in the upper portion to receive the shank 7 formed upon a handle 8. As before stated this type of mount is well known.
Itis the common practice to paste a paper label along a side face of the mount strip. This label becomes dirty with use, illegible and often torn and otherwise damaged. In the present structure, a shallow groove 9 is formed in one face. The side walls of this groove are made straight and it is adapted to receive a label holder. This holder is indicated by 10 and comprises an envelope 1927. Serial No. 197,041.
formed from a strip of transparent material having edges underturned and ending short of one another to provide a space 11. Within this holder a strip of paper or the like containing suitable indicia is placed. The holder when in position has its face flush with the outer face of the body. The indicia is displayed through the face of the holder. The back of the holder and the exposed face of the label are covered by an adhesive cement which securely fastens the label and holder in position in the mount.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 3 and 4, a mount is shown wherein the body is made from stamp moulding. The moulding is made of wood having a rounded top indicated by 15 and a flat lower face to which the type 16 is attached. In the rounded upper portion is a recess 17 for the reception of the transparent label holder 18 corresponding to the holder 10.
The holder is secured to the mount by adhesive in the same manner as that before described.
What I claim is:
1. A mount of the character described having on the face thereof a shallow groove with a fiat bottom, a transparent sheet having its edges underturned to provide an envelope of substantially the same thickness as the depth of said groove, and an insertable label in said envelope, said envelope being adhesively secured to the bottom of said groove.
2. A mount of the character described having on the face thereof a shallow groove with a flat bottom, a transparent sheet having its edges underturned and ending short of one another to provide an open space forming an envelope of substantially the same thickness as the depth of said groove, and an insertable label in said envelope having an area exposed at said space, said envelope and exposed portion of said label being adh'esively secured to the bottom face of said groove.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereuntosubscribed my name this 1st day of June, 1927. 1
