which stretcher frames-are arranged for movement into and out of a drying room through openings therein, each stretcher frame having end members adapted to close its opening portion when the frame is in outer and inner: positions respectively; the purpose of suchclosure arrangement being to'prevent'loss :of heat and protect the contents :of the dryingsroom, as, for example, articles on other stretcher-frames therein, from exposure itorool'd air. Specifically, the object of my inventiomis to provide improved means for controlling these perforations-whereby they are covered except when the frame is in inner position in-the drying room. The exact nature, further objects and advanta es will be apparent from the following escription taken in connection withthe accompanying draw ings in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of drying apparatus in which.
my invention is incorporated, the stretcher frame being shown in inner position in the drying room; Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the lower portion of the rear end member of the drying frame showing details of the damper thereon arranged according to my invention; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the parts vappearin in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a view similar to ig. 3 but showing the perforations in the end member closed by the damper.
In the drawings, the drying room is arranged upon the floor 1, having side walls 3, rear end wall 2, and ceiling 4, the forward end of the drying room being open. Extending along the floor through the opening are tracks 5 upon which the stretcher frames 6 mounted on the rolls 7 are arranged for movement into and out of the drying room. Details of the stretcher frames are immaterial here except that the forward members 8 thereof are arranged to close the opening of the drying room when the frames are in the position indicated and the rearward walls 9 are similarly arranged to close the opening when the frames are moved on their tracks-to outer position, the end-well of each frame closing its respective portion of the opening. and; it is convenient for this-. Qurpoee2to perforate the rear end walls as at 16. When these perforations are provided, however, it becomes necessary that means for closing them be also provided, that the room opening be sealed when the frames are withdrawn. For this purpose a damper 17 is conveniently mounted on the rear end wall of each stretcher frame, the damper having perforations 18 corresponding with the perforations 16 and being arranged for vertical sliding movement as by the slots 19 underlying studs 20 secured with the end walls 9. By such arrangement when the damper 17 is in lowered position, determined by the stop 30, the perforations 16 are closed, but may be opened by raising the damper 17.
For controlling the movement of the damper, I provide thereon a roller .21 carried by a bracket 22 and adjustable on the dam er as by a set screw 23, a bolt 24 being provi ed to secure the bracket 22 with its roller 21 in adjusted position, the set screw 23 being mounted in a bracket 25 secured with the damper 17. as by bolts 26. On the floor 1 adjacent the rear wall 2 of the drying room and aligned with the roller 21, is a bracket 27 havin a cam finger 28. The rise of the cam on 516 finger 28 is such that when the roller 21 is properly adjusted, the damper 17 willbe-raised to uncover the a ermres 16 of the-frame end wall, and the racket 27 is positioned so that such damper movement will be effected as the frame is mnvedito extreme inner position, a flat 29 being provided on the extremity of the finger 28 whereby tendency to move the frame Outwards is avoided.
The operation of the arrangement described will be apparent, the damper 17 being allowedto lower under its own weight immediately as the frame moves forward from the drying room position.
What I claim is:
1. Drying apparatus, comprising a drying room, a stretcher frame movable into: and Out of said room through an opening therein and having" a member adapted to close said opening when moved to outer osition, said member being perforated, a amper movable on said member' to open or close said perforation, and 0am means arranged to con trol said damper movement; dependent upon said movement of said frame.
