In this way there are provided channels or passage-ways through which the thongs pass from the outside to the inside of the cover.

It is customary in this kind ot loose-leaf binder for the outward limit ot travel on the screw thread or the equivalent or' the stretcher bar away from the thrust bearing to be governed by the back edge itselt' acting as a stop, and this may result in the stretcher" bar subjecting the back edge, especially when ot bent-up t'orm, to subversive stress.

A stop 17 is provided on lthe actuating spindle so that the travel of the stretcher bar towards the backr edge is limited.

According to one t'eature under the present invention the stretcher bar has a determined travel towards the back edge without becoming disconnected from the actuating ,mechanism so that the stretcher bar at the end o'lf its movement Vaway trom the thrust bearing 1s stopped betore 1t makes contact i with the back edge.

There are various ways of carrying out this feature.

Under the. present invention provision is made to prevent binding between the inner edges and the clamping members. For this purpose the inner edge ot each cover is cut back or bevelled away trom the inside oi backing sheet so as to provide a clearance. This cutting back or bevelling is shown at 2O and 2l. This clearance also allows of a greater angu.ar movement of the covers in opening.

Vith a binder made according to the present invention the sheets lie substantially flat when the binder is opened out, the thongs being in substantially a `straight line.

l. In a loose-leaf binder of the character described having thongs attached to a bar adjusted by screw mechanism in one of the covers, a cover comprising a wall and a baci;

edge formed as a onepiece component, and

a front edge formed by Va stretcher, the

thongs passing through said back edge, and a thrust bearing for the winding mechanism being mounted on said integral component, so that the stresses due to tightening the thongs are confined to the wall and the back edge integral therewith.

In a loose-leaic binder of the character described having thongs attached to a bar adjusted by screw mechanism in one o the covers, a cover comprising an inside sheet and a back edge ormed as a one-piece component, a front sheet, and a front edge formed by a stretcher, the thongs passing through said back edge, and a thrust bearing for the winding mechanism being mounted on said integral component, so that the stresses due to tightening the thongs are conined to the inside sheet and the back edge integral therewith.

A loose-leaf binder of the character described having a cover made up of components forming side edges and a stretcher forming the front edge, an inner wall and a back edge formed as a one-piece unit, and a front wall, a thong stretcher bar in said cover, the thongs passing out of said cover through the back edge, an actuating spindle tor said stretcher bar, a plain bearing 'for said spindle, and a thrust bearing for said spindle, the said bearings being attached to one of said walls. p

4. `A loose-lestbinder having a cover made up of components forming side edges and a stretcher forming the front edge, an inside wall bent over at one end only to form a back edge, and a front wall, a thong stretcher bar in said cover', an actuating spindle therefor, the thongs passing out ot said cover through the said back edge, a

A loose-leaf binder having a cover com prising components forming side edges and a stretcher forming the front edge, a wall and a back edge formed as a one-piece component, clamping members of strip-like form, sheet-engaging thongs passing through said back edge, a stretcher bar in said cover to which said thongs are attached, a screw spindle for moving said stretcher bar, a plain bearingfor said spindle, said bearing eing on said back edge, and a thrust bearing for said spindle, said thrust bearing being on said wall.
